Please join us at 10:30 AM on Sunday (5 January 2014) for “The Elephant and the Pope” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.\u00a0 The All Souls Choir will be singing.<\/p>\n

Religious Education Classes for Children, Youth and Adults will happen at 9:00 AM.<\/p>\n

Focusing on our Third Source, the children and youth begin their pillar on World Religions this Sunday.<\/p>\n

\"UnderstandingTheBible\"<\/a>At 9:00 AM, we continue our new adult class — Understanding the Bible: A Guide for Skeptics, Seekers and Religious Liberals<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This is a companion curriculum to the book by the same name by John Buehrens.\u00a0 We’ve been having a good bit of fun examining our own relationship to the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, engaging the text and claiming or reclaiming what is there for us.<\/p>\n

The reading for this Sunday is the Book of Exodus<\/a> (Bible text available here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The Biblical readings for Scholarly editions of the Bible we recommend include the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) , the New International Version (NIV), the New English Bible (NEB), or (while we are studying the Hebrew Bible) the JPS translation of the Tanakh.<\/p>\n

If you are contemplating buying a new one, we can offer a few more suggestions in class.\u00a0 Avoid paraphrase editions such as The Living Bible.\u00a0 We will also have several Bibles available here for your use.<\/p>\n

Please Note:\u00a0 We currently do not have any copies of of the Buehrens book, but we are planning on ordering more copies for interested persons ($12.00 per copy).\u00a0 If you wish to order your own copy, please use this link<\/a> and the church will get a percentage of the sale.<\/p>\n
