Please join us this Sunday (27 January 2013) at 11:00 AM for “Committed to Working for Justice and Acting for Peace” by Lillian Moskeland.
After the service, please join us at the Highland Center for the 2013 World Religion Day celebration.
Lillian Moskeland retired from teaching Spanish at LSU-Shreveport in 2010 — having spent 47 years in the classroom at all levels. Raised by a Catholic mother and Presbyterian father, she was set on a path of progressive activism by the social teachings of both faiths. Her talk will center on her Border Experience in November 2012 with the Sisters of Loretto.
In 1994, she became a co-member of this progressive Catholic order that had educated her through high school and two years of college. As opposed to their Catholic monastic counterparts, co-members can be of many faiths and can be married.
Lillian says of her talk, “The journey we take in life is filled with companions. Those who accompany us on this journey reflect our values, mentor us, and guide us toward our better selves. My companions have been the Sisters of Loretto and they have guided me, accompanied me and taught me to value working for Justice and acting for Peace. The Border Experience that I participated in on November 2012 is a recent example of my experience.”
