1 December 2013 Worship and Religious Education Classes

turkey-menorahPlease join us on Sunday (1 December 2013) at 10:30 AM for “The Light of the World” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

Religious education classes for children, youth, and adults will resume after their Thanksgiving Break at 9:00 AM.

We continue our new adult class — Understanding the Bible: A Guide for Skeptics, Seekers and Religious Liberals.  This is a companion curriculum to the book by the same name by John Buehrens.  In the coming weeks, we’ll have an opportunity to examine our own relationship to the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, to engage the text, and to reclaim that treasure for ourselves.

The Biblical reading for tomorrow’s class is Genesis 3:1-24.

Scholarly editions of the Bible we recommend include the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), the New International Version (NIV), the New English Bible (NEB), or, while we are studying the Hebrew Bible, the Jewish Publication Society (JPS) translation of the Tanakh.

If you are contemplating buying a new Bible, we can offer a few more suggestions in class.  Avoid paraphrase editions like The Living Bible.  We will also have several Bibles available in the classroom for your use if you don’t have one.
