The 31st annual Shreveport – Bossier City Holocaust Memorial Service will be happening on Sunday (27 April 2014) at 4:00 PM at the Christian Center of Shreveport (207 Idema Street, Shreveport LA).
From Rabbi Jana De Benedetti (B’nai Zion Congregation):
This will be the 31st year that the Shreveport and Bossier communities will come together in prayer, memory, and hope for our annual Holocaust Memorial Service. Each year a different house of worship hosts the event, and this year it will be 4:00 PM Sunday, April 27 at the Christian Center Shreveport, 207 Idema Street (near the intersection of 3132 and Linwood) in Shreveport, Tim Carscadden is Pastor at the Church and the Chair of the memorial service this year.
In recent years we have lost Holocaust survivors in our community. This year we are privileged that Rev. Dr. Donald Webb and Mr. Sidney Kent will be sharing some of their personal stories of what they witnessed during the Holocaust. Eliot Haas will perform a cello solo piece. We are honored that they have agreed to share with us.
Over 100 essays and poems from local high school students were submitted for our Holocaust Literature contest. The topic was: Why you feel that your generation must remember the Holocaust.. The winning entries will be read, and the other winners will be awarded at the event.
Eleven candles will be lit in memory of the eleven million lives lost during the Holocaust. Short, inspiring videos of memory and hope will be shown.
