Congregational Meeting (17 December 2017)

Announcement of  Congregational Meeting
From:  James Peck (Board Secretary)
To:  All Members, Inactive Members, and Friends

In accordance with the Bylaws of our church, and as Secretary of the Board, I hereby announce that All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church will hold a Congregational Meeting in the sanctuary.

Date and Time: Sunday, 17 December 2017 at 12:15 PM

On the Agenda

  • Vote on 2018 Budget.
  • Elect one member to Nominating Committee.

Please make every effort to attend.  All active members should attend this meeting or give their proxies to those who can.

Inactive members and friends of the church are invited and encouraged to participate, but bylaws stipulate that only those members who have been active 30 days or longer may vote.

We must have a quorum.

Childcare provided.

Gale Gucker Honored for 50 Years of Membership

During our September 2017 Homecoming Service (when we honored our 25-year members) we made a horrendous mistake and forgot to honor Gale Gucker (our 50-year member).

We plan to correct that oversight at our 11:00 AM Sunday service on 29 October 2017.

Gale has served the church in numerous positions over the years — President of the Board, Chair of the Building Committee for our current location in the beautiful woods of South Shreveport, and in many other roles.

She has also served in leadership roles with the former Southwest District of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Please join us to honor Gale and to hear her speak about the early years of our congregation.

Building and Grounds Work Day — 21 October 2017

Please join us on Saturday (21 October 2017) for our monthly building and grounds work day.  We will be there from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Beyond basic mowing and cleaning, all of the work of maintaining our building and grounds is done by us — the members and friends of All Souls who volunteer every month.

Come join your church friends and get to know them better as you work side by side to spruce up our church home.

Weather permitting, there are tasks indoors and out, for all ages and levels of ability.

Building and Grounds Work Day — 12 August 2017

Please join us on Saturday (12 August 2017) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for our monthly building and grounds work day — tasks inside and out for all ages and all levels of ability.

Come for a little while or come the whole time. Except for lawn mowing and basic cleaning, all the tasks to maintain our building and grounds are done by ourselves — the members and friends of the church.

Working together is a great way to build and strengthen relationships and get to know your church community a little better.

World Religion Day (22 January 2017)

Please join us on Sunday (22 January 2017) for the Shreveport and Bossier City celebration of World Religion Day from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The theme for this year is “One Light, Many Windows.”  The event location is the Highland Center (520 Olive Street, Shreveport LA).

Join us for this 18th annual celebration of the great religious diversity present right here in Shreveport and Bossier City.

As many as 18 different faith traditions participate in the event, which includes table displays, music performances, and multi-faith panel discussions that seek out our common ground and celebrate our differences.

Want to know how you can help?

  • Help with set-up at the Highland Center on Saturday (21 January 2017) between noon and 4:00 PM
  • Work a shift at the All Souls table during the event itself
  • Bake or buy some snacks to serve at our table
  • Work a shift at the Welcome Table for the general event. (Welcome guests and have them sign the guest book and take a ticket for drawings)

11 December 2016 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us this Sunday (11 December 2016) at 11:00 AM for “A Tradition of Faith” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

On this day that new members will sign the membership book, we celebrate our congregation — a covenanted community within a Living Tradition that belongs to all of us.

We will have a Congregational Business Meeting following the service — child care will be provided — we must have a quorum.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service — children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.
