17 May 2015 Adult Religious Education

TheGoodHeartDalaiLamaOur class continues this Sunday (17 May 2015) at 9:15 AM with discussions of The Good Heart:  A Buddhist Perspective on the Teachings of Jesus by the Dalai Lama.

On Sunday, May 17th, we will read and reflect on Luke 9:28-36 (“The Transfiguration”) and Chapter 6 in The Good Heart.

In the class, we have a reading of the passage as translated for the Dalai Lama, followed by a period of silent meditation.  We then discuss our own thoughts on the reading, as well as the Dalai Lama’s comments.

We have seven more copies of the book available at the church this week and we can order more as needed.

10 May 2015 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

RosePlease join us on Sunday (10 May 2015) at 11:00 AM for “One of the Hardest Things” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

Our Mother’s Day service will also include special music featuring the All Souls Choir along with Barbara Jarrell, Gail Burt, and Robert Smith.  Also appearing are guest musicians Lane Bayliss, Alan Dyson, Dan Garner, and Greg Williams.

Religious Education classes for Children and Youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.  Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.

On Sunday, May 10th, we will read and reflect on Mark 4:26-34 (“The Kingdom of God” — Chapter 5 in The Good Heart).  In the class, we have a reading of the passage as translated for the Dalai Lama, followed by a period of silent meditation.  We then discuss our own thoughts on the reading, as well as the Dalai Lama’s comments.

We have eight more copies of the book available at the church this week and we can order more as needed.

We will read and reflect on Mark 3: 31-35 which expresses the concept of equanimity.  In the class, we have a reading of the passage as translated for the Dalai Lama, followed by a period of silent meditation.  We then discuss our own thoughts on the reading, as well as the Dalai Lama’s comments.

TheGoodHeartDalaiLamaOur class continues this Sunday (26 April 2015) at 9:30 AM with discussions of The Good Heart:  A Buddhist Perspective on the Teachings of Jesus by the Dalai Lama.

We will read and reflect on Matthew 5: 1-10 (The Beatitudes) following the Dalai Lama’s advice to take time for our own reflections on the passage before “reflecting on someone else reflecting on someone else.”

We will then have a period of silent medidation, after which we will take time to talk about the Dalai Lama’s comments and how they affected your own perspective.

We have nine more copies of the book available at the church this week and we can order more as needed.

earth_day_2010_by_CrypticDisdainPlease join us on Sunday (19 April 2015) at 11:00 AM for “Living on a Living Planet” — A Celebration of Earth Day with the Children, Youth and Adults of All Souls

Continuing our focus on the “Interdependent Web of All Existence” — we celebrate Earth Day with a focus not only on what we can do to take care of the planet, but also on the realization that taking care of the home we share includes taking care of each other.

Therefore, our focus is on “Peace, Social Justice and the Interdependent Web” — knowing, as Radha Sahar has said, that “everything relates to everything else.”  Please join us in celebration.

The All Souls Choir will sing (featuring Robert Smith on soprano sax) and we will have guest guitarists Mason Upton and Bob Jordan as well.

5 April 2015 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us on Easter Sunday (5 April 2015) at 11:00 AM for “Rising Green” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

The service will feature an inclusive communion ritual that celebrates our beloved community.

The All Souls Choir will sing.

We will have an Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers through 5th grade immediately following the service.

5 April 2015 — No 9:30 AM Adult Religious Education Classes

There will be no adult religious education classes on Easter Sunday (5 April 2015).

TheGoodHeartDalaiLamaOn the Sunday after Easter (12 April 2015), we will begin our discussion of The Good Heart: A Buddhist Perspective on the Teachings of Jesus by the Dalai Lama.  The church will be ordering ten copies this week and will order more copies upon request.
