2 June 2013 Worship Service

“Kindling the Flame Within” — 11:00 AM Worship Service for 2 June 2013.

Join the children, youth, and adults of the congregation — along with the All Souls Choir — to celebrate the light within each and every one of us and the ways in which we can share that light with the wider world.

This is also a time when we celebrate the transitions of our children and youth, the end of our pillar on Personal Spiritual Growth, and the end of the 2012-2013 Religious Education year.

Don’t forget that this is the Sunday to bring back your Guest At Your Table boxes or envelopes for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.  We will also take an additional collection for the Standing on the Side of Love Fund to benefit undocumented immigrant tornado victims in Oklahoma.

Parents — please make every effort to have your children and youth in attendance for the next two Sundays.

Please join us on Sunday (17 February 2013) at 11:00 AM for “If We Agree in Love … ” where we will celebrate 30 Days of Love and the wisdom found in our third source.

Using the words of Hosea Ballou as our guide, we celebrate the last day of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s 30 Days of Love campaign by exploring the ways our Universalist heritage has led us to an appreciation of the wisdom of many faiths that teaches us to stand for love in the world.

Join us immediately following the service for a Visioning Potluck where we will share food and conversation about the future of our church.

Welcoming Diversity — A Workshop with Carrie Stewart

Please join us on Friday evening (15 February 2013) and on Saturday (16 February 2013) for Welcoming Diversity with Carrie Stewart.

Modeled on the Prejudice Reduction Workshops of the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI), this workshop will cover the following objectives:

  • To celebrate similarities and differences,
  • To recognize the misinformation that people have learned about various groups,
  • To identify and heal from internalized oppression-the discrimination members of an oppressed group target at themselves and each other,
  • To claim pride in group identity,
  • To understand the personal impact of discrimination through the telling of stories, and
  • To learn hands-on tools for dealing effectively with bigoted comments and behavior.

The workshop will happen on Friday (15 February 2013) from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday (16 February 2013) from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Working from the understanding that “Guilt is the glue that cements prejudice in place,” this workshop teaches us ways to move forward in a positive and affirming way.
