All-Ages Worship (20 November 2022)

Please join us this Sunday (20 November 2022) at 11:00 AM for our annual Thanksgiving worship service, ritual of gratitude, and potluck feast.

We will begin in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

Although the number of new COVID cases and hospitalizations has increased in the Shreveport metro area, we are still safe to have to in-person worship at this time.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

Please use good judgment and stay home if you have any symptoms.  Even those who have tested negative for COVID can later test positive.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

Our November 2022 give-away-the-plate recipient is The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.

Thanksgiving Service, Ritual of Gratitude, and Potluck Feast (20 November 2022)

At a time when so much is in question, including the holiday itself, it would be tempting either to pass it by completely, or to continue to celebrate without confronting difficult truths.

Neither path is a solution.

Instead, we do pause to give thanks for all we have in this life, including our right to tell and teach the truth, which is the only path toward true healing.

After a brief service in the sanctuary, we participate together in an inclusive communion of gratitude in the social hall, followed by a potluck feast.

While with other potlucks, we tend to keep it loose and trust that the Universe will provide, for this one, we like to have a bit more of a plan — to bring our “A game” as Amanda Lawrence (aka the Potluck Goddess) has often said.

To that end, please sign up here to let us know what you can bring.

All-Ages Worship (6 November 2022)

Please join us this Sunday (6 November 2022) at 11:00 AM for “Slave State” featuring special guest speaker Curtis Ray Davis II.

Wrongly imprisoned for 25 years in Angola, Curtis Davis got a firsthand look at what it means to be the property of the State of Louisiana.

He has worked tirelessly ever since to try and change that status for others who are still incarcerated.

Join us to hear his story, and to hear why now is the time to remove slavery from the Louisiana Constitution.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

All-Ages Worship (30 October 2022)

Please join us this Sunday (30 October 2022) at 11:00 AM for “Answer in the Form of a Question” featuring special guest Michael Servetus.

It’s the format for one of the world’s most popular game shows and it’s also the way that we Unitarian Universalists often look at the Big Questions before us — with even more questions.

At this turning of the year — closest to Samhain, All Hallows Eve, and All Souls Day — it is appropriate to turn our thoughts to those who came before us . . . our own ancestors and also the ancestors of our faith (“prophetic people whose words and deeds challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love”).

One of them will even join us from the 16th century to tell us his story.

All ages will be with us for this interactive multigenerational service.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Samhain Ritual with Ár nDraíocht Féin (A Druid Fellowship) — 29 October 2002

Please join us on Saturday (29 October 2022) at 3:00 PM for a Samhain ritual with Ár nDraíocht Féin (a Druid Fellowship).

The Thistle Grove of Ár nDraíocht Féin invites one and all to their ritual in celebration of Samhain (pronouned SAH-win) — an ancient Celtic festival of the dead that is the source of many of our Halloween traditions but is not the same as Halloween.

Samhain on the Druid calendar is the turning of the year — a time for remembrance and reverence of the dead.

Though family-friendly and welcoming to all, the ritual is a more solemn occasion than a Halloween celebration and will include a speaking of the names of those who have died.

We will have a special ritual of remembrance for our friend Rae Goins and we invite you to honor your own departed loved ones as you participate in this spiritual ritual and learning experience.

We also invite you and yours to stick around afterward for our Halloween celebration — Trunk-or-Treat which begins at 5:00 PM.

All-Ages Worship (23 October 2022)

Please join us this Sunday at 11:00 AM for “TBA . . . as in ‘Yet to Be Revealed'” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

What can we say?  It has yet to be revealed.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

All-Ages Worship (16 October 2022)

Please join us this Sunday at 11:00 AM for “Sharing Our Experience of This Religious Movement” with Gale Gucker, Steve Caldwell, and Bennett Upton.

Join us to hear two former congregational board presidents and a trainer of teachers in the UUA/UCC Our Whole Lives Comprehensive Sexuality Education Curriculum speak on their experience with Unitarian Universalism at the denominational level and all they have gained from that wider view of our faith.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

All-Ages Worship (9 October 2022)

Please join us this Sunday (9 October 2022) at 11:00 AM for “Hidden Wholeness” with Rev. Barbara Jarrell and Barbara Deger.

As we reflect on the past year, the service will include a ritual to release the things which no longer serve.

You will have an opportunity to write these things on paper and release them into the fire.  A worksheet to guide your thinking is here and printed copies are available near the entrance to the sanctuary.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.
