“A Taste of Interfaith” is an annual fundraiser for Northern and Central Louisiana Interfaith.
Date: Sunday, 4 December 2011, 3:00 – 6:00 PM
Location: Mount Canaan Baptist Church, 166 Alston Street, Shreveport, Louisiana
The admission cost of $25 per person includes an afternoon of food and music representative of the diverse congregations and cultures that make up Interfaith’s membership. The All Souls Choir will be among those performing.
A Silent Auction featuring art, services and gift items to help you with your holiday shopping.
Proceeds support the work of Interfaith in the following areas:
- Workforce Development — We are ever closer to the advent of a program here in the Shreveport-Bossier area along the lines of the NOVA Workforce Institute of Northeast Louisiana, which matches training for living wage jobs with employees who need them and the employers who need those employees.
- Habitability Ordinance — Interfaith has worked continually for a number of years to advocate for a workable Habitability Ordinance that will protect renters from substandard and often dangerous living conditions without unjustly penalizing responsible landlords.
- Public Education — Interfaith continues its pilot project at Woodlawn High School in an effort to increase parental and community involvement in the improvement of under-performing schools.
- Public Transportation — Several years ago, Interfaith lobbied successfully for after-hours bus service to enable shift workers and other non-9-to-5 employees to travel affordably to and from work. Interfaith is once again working with Sportran to try and find a way to widen the territory served by public transportation.
The work of Interfaith arises from the needs of the people within its member congregations. The issues we work on are brought forward to the group from smaller house meetings that take place within our congregations. Members of All Souls are encouraged to become a part of our church’s Interfaith team, and to attend this community-building event.
