28 July 2013 Worship Service

LadyCarlsonPlease join us on Sunday at 11:00 AM for “Hope Within History” by Lady Carlson (Lead Organizer — Northern and Central Louisiana Interfaith).

The theologian Walter Brueggeman has written, “The temptation among us is to split hope and history. As a result, we hold to a religious hope that is detached from the realities of the historical process. Or we participate in a history which ends in despair because the process itself delivers no lasting victories for the participant.”

Brueggeman instead has looked to the Biblical prophets to find an enduring hope that lives within the context of hitory and challenges the current culture of hopelessness. This morning, Lady Carlson looks at this Biblical narrative of hope through the lens of the organizer, updating us on opportunities here and now to set hands and feet to this spiritual journey of hope.

AmandaLawrenceIn the RE Wing, we continue our “Summer of Sources” with the Fifth Source — “Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit.”

This morning, our children and youth will join Amanda Lawrence for some Fun with Science.
