Adult Religious Education — 1 July 2018

Please join us on Sunday (1 July 2018) at 9:15 AM for our adult religious education class.

We will resume our discussion of Daring Democracy: Igniting Power, Meaning, and Connection for the America We Want by Frances Moore Lappe and Adam Eichen.

Susan Caldwell (All Souls Director of Religious Education) attended a workshop with one of the authors at the UUA General Assembly (GA) and is eager to share some of the success stories she heard.

Before the adult class hiatus, we got through the really depressing “this is how we got here” chapters (yes, five families have essentially highjacked democracy in our country and there is no turning away from that fact).

But even in this dismal week, the rest of the book offers practical advice on “how we fix it” and even a few success.

24 June 2018 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (24 June 2018) at 11:00 AM for “Stay Angry” by Melissa Gibson (All Souls member and activist).

It is healthy and understandable to be angry in these times.

How do we maintain our energy and channel our anger in such a way that we stay effective to create change where it is so badly needed?

A Reminder that “Give Away the Plate Has Changed”  — Rather than selecting one charity or non-profit at the end of the month, we now give half of all of our non-pledge income for the entire month to a selected non-profit.

For the month of June, we have chosen The Philadelphia Center for sponsorship of their annual silent auction in August.

Summer fun activities for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.  This week’s summer fun is mindfulness and meditation for all ages.

Mindfulness for All Ages (Summer Fun for 24 June 2018)

On this Sunday (24 June 2018), our children and youth will be  practicing meditation and mindfulness for all ages.

Jennifer Russell and James Peck will facilitate a session of activities for teaching mindfulness as something accessible to all ages — at any time — in the day-to-day activities of life.

17 June 2018 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (17 June 2018) at 11:00 AM for “On Fathering: The Reflections of Three Men at Different Stages of Fatherhood” with John Macy, Abbas Moussaoui, and Ron Thurston.

Join John Allen and three of our members to hear their perspectives on fatherhood at different stages along the path.

Join us afterward in the social hall for a Father’s Day Lunch prepared by the children and youth.

A Reminder that “Give Away the Plate Has Changed”  — Rather than selecting one charity or non-profit at the end of the month, we now give half of all of our non-pledge income for the entire month to a selected non-profit.

Summer fun activities for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.  This week’s summer fun is creating a special Father’s Day lunch.

Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then leave for their summer fun event.

Father’s Day Lunch (Summer Fun for 17 June 2018)

On this Sunday (17 June 2018), our children and youth will be creating a special Father’s Day lunch.

The children and youth will join Rovena and Boogie Windsor to prepare a terrific Father’s Day lunch to be served to Dads and everyone else immediately following the service.

10 June 2018 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (10 June 2018) at 11:00 AM for A Celebration of Pride featuring guest speaker Brad Campbell.

We are delighted to welcome Brad Campbell to our pulpit for the first time.

Brad is a retired middle school English teacher now in his second career as Training Coordinator for Volunteers of America.

He has been involved with LGBTQ advocacy as a member of PACE (People Acting for Change and Equality) and as one of the organizers of the North Louisiana Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

Summer fun activities for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.  This week’s summer fun is “Tie-Dye Sunday.”

Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then leave for their summer fun event.

Tie-Dye Sunday (Summer Fun for 10 June 2018)

Tie-dye for dads, other special grownups, and everybody will be on Sunday (10 June 2018) during our worship service.

Richard Denton and Betty Gorey Parent are on board as our adult facilitators and they will welcome help.

Children and youth will need to bring a 100% white or light-colored cotton t-shirt or other fabric item ideally pre-washed for better absorption of the dyes (although we do soak them in soda ash solution and even new shirts will turn out nicely).

We do have some extra shirts and bandannas for those who forget, available for a $5.00 donation for a shirt, $1.00 for a bandanna (payable whenever — we won’t let a child go without for this event).

3 June 2018 All-Ages Worship Service

Please join us on Sunday (3 June 2018) at 11:00 AM for “A Backpack for the Journey” where we will honor the transitions of our children and youth.

We also honor our graduating senior Sam First.

The Affirmation Sunday service is our end of the religious education year where we honor our children and youth — celebrating their transitions as well as the culmination of our pillar on personal spiritual growth and development.

This is a service of joy and hope and a bit of fun, too.

Sam First will give his Senior Sermon, and we will also take time to honor other graduates in our wider church community, as well as the milestones of all the children and youth.

Please join us to be part of a community that honors and celebrates Sam and all the young people who have so much to teach us.

Reminder:  Give Away the Plate has changed –rather than selecting one charity or non-profit at the end of the month, we now give half of all of our non-pledge income for the entire month to a selected non-profit.

27 May 2018 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (27 May 2018) at 11:00 AM for  “Necessary Roughness — An Observance of Memorial Day” by John Allen.

We will be exploring what motivates a Unitarian Universalist to serve in the military along with reconciling Unitarian Universalism’s strong tendency towards pacifism with the inherent violence of military service.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.

Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.
