Adult Religious Education — 27 August 2017

Please join us on Sunday (27 August 2017) at 9:15 AM as we continue in the spirit of the #uuwhitesupremacyteachin that we started on 30 April 2017.

We will discuss the next four chapters — Chapter 27 (“Living into Expectations”), Chapter 28 (“I Am the Elephant”), Chapter 29 (“Intent and Impact”), and Chapter 30 (“Feelings and the Culture of Niceness”).

We will also briefly revisit a question from Chapter 24:

Make a list of all the factors that you believe contributed to your own achievement as a student. How do you think being a white person or a person of color influenced those factors?

Please join us on Sunday (13 August 2017) at 11:00 AM for “Understanding” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

This Sunday’s Summer Fun activity is seed bombs with Cindy Mandarino.  Seed bombs are a creative way to toss a little beauty into places in need of it that might not get regular beautification and care.

Building and Grounds Work Day — 12 August 2017

Please join us on Saturday (12 August 2017) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for our monthly building and grounds work day — tasks inside and out for all ages and all levels of ability.

Come for a little while or come the whole time. Except for lawn mowing and basic cleaning, all the tasks to maintain our building and grounds are done by ourselves — the members and friends of the church.

Working together is a great way to build and strengthen relationships and get to know your church community a little better.

Artist Sunday (6 August 2017)

Please join us on Sunday (6 August 2017) at 11:00 AM for Artist Sunday — a celebration of the performing and visual artists among our members and friends.

Artist Sunday is a worship service in which every element of the service is some aspect of the performing arts — singing, instrumental music, poetry, prose, dance, and sometimes even martial arts and magic.

Before and after the service, enjoy a visual art show and sale in the Religious Education wing.

This will be an all-ages worship service — our children and youth will stay in the worship service.

No Adult Religious Education This Sunday (6 August 2017)

30 July 2017 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (30 July 2017) at 11:00 AM for “How UUs Say Grace in a Graceless World:  Awful, Amazing, Gritty Grace” by Claudia Harris.

We are delighted to welcome our own Claudia Harris back to the pulpit this Sunday to share her own thoughtful, unique and often humorous perspective on our world in these “interesting times.”

For the final Sunday of the month, we give our non-pledge contributions to a local, regional, or national organization that supports and promotes the values we hold dear and walks that out into the world.

For July, we are excited to tell you that we are giving away the plate to the effort to bring the Our Whole Lives Comprehensive Sexuality Education Program to our entire community — a much-needed supplement to the inadequate abstinence-only program currently offered in our schools.

Thanks to NOW Shreveport – Bossier City (local chapter of the National Organization for Women), we are able to collaborate to make this happen for our youth in the congregation and in the wider community.

This Sunday’s Summer Fun activity is Theater Games with Leigh Anne Chambers.
