Easter Egg Hunt (5 April 2015)

Easter_eggsWe will have our Easter Egg Hunt immediately after the 11:00 AM Easter worship service (5 April 2015).

We’re asking parents (and anyone else who can help) to bring a dozen filled plastic eggs to the church before 5 April 2015.

You can fill the eggs with candy, small toys, stickers, temporary tattoos or any kid-safe treasures we haven’t thought of yet.

Be sure to mark your eggs as safe or not safe for children under 3.

Items unsafe for kids under 3 would include:

  • hard candies
  • gum
  • nuts
  • extremely chewy candy
  • toys small enough to be choking hazards

29 March 2015 and 5 April 2015 — No 9:30 AM Adult Religious Education Classes

There will be no adult religious education classes this Sunday (29 March 2015) or on Easter Sunday (5 April 2015).

TheGoodHeartDalaiLamaOn the Sunday after Easter (12 April 2015), we will begin our discussion of The Good Heart: A Buddhist Perspective on the Teachings of Jesus by the Dalai Lama.  The church will be ordering ten copies this week and will order more copies upon request.

22 March 2015 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us at 11:00 AM for “Breaking Open:  The Mystic and the Warrior” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

We will have music from the All Souls Choir as well as our special
musical guest Cookie Garner who (along with Barbara) will be
performing original songs.

Religious Education classes for Children and Youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service. Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service, then are dismissed to their classes.

22 March 2015 Adult Religious Education

WaitstillandMarthaSharpPlease join us at 9:30 AM for the documentary The Minister’s War: The Story of Waitstill and Martha Sharp — the powerful, true story of a Unitarian minister and his wife who rescued hundreds of people from Nazi persecution in Europe (many of them children).

They are two of only four American citizens honored as “Righteous Among the Nations” by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Israel.

Keynote:  Rev. John Henson of Church for the Highlands

Other speakers and guests will include:

A gathering of clergy and laity of the various faiths represented by our organization to pray for our public officials and the issues they are facing and for our citizens who are standing up for change.

The meal will be provided by the wonderful Lashon Stubbs of the Highland Center kitchen, along with her loyal minions (volunteer Interfaith leaders).

15 March 2015 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

ChristaPazzagliaPlease join us on Sunday (15 March 2015) at 11:00 AM — Christa Pazzaglia from Hope for the Homeless is our guest in the pulpit this morning as we continue the Season of the Friend (celebrating our Second Principle, Justice, Equity and Compassion in Human Relations).

Christa will explore the injustices of the homeless system and what all the local providers are doing together to change it.

Religious Education classes for Children and Youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service. Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service, then are dismissed to their classes.

We will conclude our study of Nature’s God: The Heretical Origins of the American Republic by Matthew Stewart

Stewart has written a compelling history of the founding of our nation that includes quite a few stories your teacher never told you and is also a history of ideas that shaped our nation.

It serves to refute a frequent claim heard nowadays that our nation was founded as a “Christian nation.”

This Sunday we finish our discussion of Chapter 7 — “The Empire of Reason.”

You are welcome to join the class at any time, whether or not you are reading the book.  If you choose to order either the hard copy or Kindle version through Amazon, please remember to go through the Amazon window on the All Souls website.

We are blessed to welcome back to our pulpit Rev. Jonalu Johnstone — Program Minister for First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The service will include a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March, and the All Souls Choir will sing.
