Please join us on Sunday, 27 January 2013, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Highland Center (520 Olive Street, Shreveport, Louisiana) for our community’s annual World Religion Day celebration.
The keynote adddress will be “Beyond Religious Dialogue” by Dr. David Otto (Professor of Religious Studies and Crawford Chair of Liberal Arts Centenary College of Louisiana).
The event’s panel discussions will include the following:
This is a great community-building event offering numerous volunteer opportunities — working at the All Souls information table, helping with set-up on Saturday (26 January 2013), and staffing the event concession stand.
Look for a place to sign up in the foyer and contact Susan Caldwell for more information.
As many of you know, Patrick Early is at home recovering from foot surgery. We have set up a meal train to help provide him with meals during his recovery, which is estimated to take about three weeks.
At our 16 December 2012 Congregational Business Meeting, we passed a provisional budget and have scheduled a special congregational budget meeting for 20 January 2013 at 12:30 PM (immediately after the Sunday worship service). If you have not yet provided your 2013 pledge to the church, please do it now.
In accordance with the bylaws of our church, and as Secretary of the Board, I hereby announce that All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church will hold a Congregational Meeting.
On the Agenda:
Please make every effort to attend. Childcare provided.
All active members should attend this meeting or give their written proxies to those who can. We must have a quorum.
Inactive members and friends of the church are invited and encouraged to participate, but bylaws stipulate that only those members who have been active 30 days or longer may vote.
By now you have probably heard from your friendly pledge steward, and you’ve had a bit of time to consider your own finances, your sense of ownership in the church, and the different kinds of gifts that you bring to our faith community and receive from being a part of it.
Please make every effort to get your pledge form turned in by this Sunday (9 December 2012). The Finance Committee will be meeting on Tuesday (11 December 2012) to determine the 2013 budget.
Many thanks for your support of the church!
On Sunday (30 September 2012) immediately following the 11:00 AM worship service, the Exploratory Committee will present the first in a series of town hall meetings.
This committee appointed by the All Souls Board to explore the options for the geographical future of our congregation will host the first of a series of informational Town Hall Meetings to report on its findings so far.
Please join this Sunday (12 August 2012) for our 11:00 AM worship service. This week’s service is our annual Water Communion Service.
Please bring a small container of water from your summer experiences or travels — whether far away or right in your own backyard. We will briefly share our stories as we come together to join our waters into a common bowl.
Each year, we boil, filter and freeze this water and add it to water from preceding years for use at child dedications and other water rituals throughout the church year.
The theme of water continues after the service with our annual End-of-Summer Swim Party and Potluck at the home of Laurie Lyons and Henry Walker (441 Drexel Drive, Shreveport LA).
Laurie and Henry are once again graciously opening their home to the congregation. Follow the link to a map or pick up a map and directions in the foyer at church. All ages, long-time members and first-time visitors are all welcome.
Bring your swimsuits to church that day, bring a dish to share, and join us at Laurie and Henry’s after the worship service for a different kind of “water communion.” Non-swimmers are also welcome too.
Burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers and dogs and the trimmings will be provided by the Religious Education Committee.
In the May 2012 newsletter, Susan Caldwell (All Souls Director of Religious Education) asked you to consider sharing your personal spiritual story, your beliefs and ideas about this life, and perhaps some of the experiences that brought you to this stage of your journey.
