Beyond Galilee Screening — 17 September 2017

Please join us on Sunday (17 September 2017) at 6:00 PM for a screening of the documentary Beyond Galilee.

In August of 1958, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was invited to Shreveport, Louisiana to deliver a speech at the Galilee Baptist Church as part of a voter registration workshop.  Beyond Galilee explores how the Civil Rights movement evolved in Shreveport in the years that followed — highlighting the key events of the movement in Shreveport through the testimonies of the actual participants supplemented by news footage, rare audio, home movies and photos from the era.  Beyond Galilee chronicles a vital part of Shreveport’s history and provides much needed insight and perspective into the city’s role in the national Civil Rights movement (summary from IMDb page for this documentary).

Come for a little while or come the whole time. Except for lawn mowing and basic cleaning, all the tasks to maintain our building and grounds are done by ourselves — the members and friends of the church.

Working together is a great way to build and strengthen relationships and get to know your church community a little better.

Helping the Helpers

Who deserves a “thank you” this Christmas Eve?  Firefighters, ER staff, police, EMTs, etc?

Maybe the employees at your neighborhood convenience store, who don’t save lives but might have saved your dinner by carrying that ingredient you forgot?

Please bring cookies or other holiday snacks to the church social hall on Friday (23 December 2016) between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Amanda Lawrence and friends will then divide the goodies up into decorative trays.

After the Christmas Eve service, everyone  is invited to grab a tray or two and deliver them to wherever they see fit.

Please note, we cannot accept snacks that need refrigeration or heating.
