Capital Fund Drive Success!

With a goal of $30,000 and only 6 weeks to attain that goal, we outdid ourselves by donating a total of $58,865 for repairs and construction required for the immediate erosion problems.  It was because of the generosity and dedication of our members and friends that we were able to achieve such a result.

Work has been completed for the immediate repairs and plans are underway to begin the topography and erosion reports necessary to determine a plan of action for erosion control throughout the church property.

The money raised that will not be used for this project (approximately $28,000) will be set aside in the savings account and will be used sparingly and with full disclosure to the congregation.

Third Annual All Souls Chili Cook-Off — Sunday, 22 April 2012

Next Sunday (22 April 2012) after the 11:00 AM worship service, we will be having our annual chili cook-off competition.

Who will win the Coveted Chili Chalice?

The Chili Cook-Off is a fun event as well as a fundraiser for the church. Voters vote with their dollars and — in that fine old Louisiana tradition — it is not only permissible but expected and condoned to “vote early and vote often.”

Erosion Repair Contractor Meeting — Saturday, 7 April 2012 at 12:00 PM

On 22 March 2012, the Board voted to accept the proposal by Ronald G. Carlson Inc. for the work to control the growing erosion gully which has been threatening the sanctuary foundation.

The successful bid is a proposal for a collection box to be located where the collapsed sidewalk segment was, which will then feed water into an open topped concrete flume (basically, a shallow, open topped concrete lined trough) that will run down the slope to an outflow near the bayou.

Additionally, a concrete curb will be cast in place on the lawn side of the sidewalk along the northwest side of the sanctuary to contain and control the run-off of water from the roof downspouts. Due to the soil character and steepness of the slope the work will be almost entirely hand labor.

Mr. Carlson has agreed to come and discuss the project in detail with board members and all interested parties on Saturday, 7 April 2012, at 12:00 PM.

1 April 2012 Worship Service

Please join us this Sunday (1 April 2012) at 11:00 AM for “Maybe the Joke’s on Us.”  Rev. Barbara Jarrell is in the pulpit this morning, and the All Souls Choir will sing.

Before and after church, check out the Easter Bake and Gift Sale in the Social Hall.  If you have baked g00ds or gift items to donate for the sale, please bring them to church by 10:15 AM Sunday.

2nd – 5th Grade Class Cookie and Bracelet Sale

This Sunday (5 February 2012) immediately after our worship service, please join us for this fundraiser presented by our children.

The 2nd – 5th Grade Class has been learning about the tradition of service in many of the world’s religions and our own Unitarian Universalist tradition.  They have decided to raise money for one cause close to home and one cause helping people in the wider world.

They will donate half their proceeds to Heifer International and the other half to the Erosion Abatement Project here at All Souls.

The sale will continue for the next two Sundays — culminating with the intergenerational worship service on 19 February 2012.

Valentine’s Day Bake and Gift Sale

On 12 February 2012 before and after church, we will be having a Valentine’s Day Bake and Gift Sale.

Please bring baked goods, cakes, casseroles, or a gift item appropriate for the holiday.

Items will be sold for donations to be determined (where else?) in the heart of the buyer.

No time to bake? Here’s a great idea for serving two great causes at once: Holy Angels Gift Shop is featuring homemade cookies for $5.00 per dozen! Buy some and bring them for the All Souls sale! Call 797-8500 and ask for Sheila Harkey to place an order. They will need a couple of days notice — so put it on your calendar!

Worship for Sunday, 18 December 2011 — And Cookie Exchange!!

2012 Stewardship Campaign

This year’s stewardship drive has already surpassed last year’s and promises to be even better — thanks to Stewardship Chair Robert Smith, the dedicated stewards who have taken the time to have vital conversations about what the church means to its members, and of course, thanks to you.

We are still waiting on a number of pledges we know will come in, so if one of those happens to be yours, please take a quick moment to cross this one item off of your growing December list.

Such a small, simple act of filling out a form, and yet you know how much it means to your own spiritual sustenance and to the continued presence of a liberal religious alternative in our community.

Lost your form? Not to worry. Check your mailbox on Saturday and Monday and you should receive a new one, so fill it out and bring it with you to church on Sunday or drop it in the mail. If it crosses in the mail with the one you just sent in, thank you, and please disregard the new one.

Thank you for your continued support of our faith community.

2012 Stewardship Campaign

Have you had a chance to talk to your Stewardship Campaign Representative?

If you are an active member, you most likely have been contacted by one of the stewards of this year’s campaign to support the ministries of the church.  You have either had or are planning to have a conversation with the steward about your own stake in the church and your hopes and dreams for its future.

We hope that you have welcomed this opportunity to pause and consider the spiritual dimension of your gifts to the church.

Still haven’t heard from your steward?  If you haven’t been contacted by the end of today (Friday, 11 November 2011), call Robert Smith (Stewardship Campaign Chair) at 318-861-8976 or email him at rwpsmith@comcast.net.
