“Race and the Constitution” with Marjorie Esman (ACLU of Louisiana) — 19 October 2016

marjorieesmanPlease join us on Wednesday (19 October 2016) at 7:00 PM for “Race and the Constitution” with Marjorie Esman (Executive Director, ACLU of Louisiana).

Marjorie Esman says:

The U.S. Constitution has at times been interpreted in ways which propelled forward the cause of racial justice, but as originally drafted, was designed to deprive African Americans of fundamental rights. While civil rights have been expanded by Constitutional amendments and legislation, the legacy of denial persists. With issues of discrimination, profiling, and physical and structural violence still pervading American society, how does the Constitution still serve to deny full racial justice?

The talk is free and open to the public.  Please join us.

2 October 2016 Blessing of the Animals All-Ages Worship Service

blessingoftheanimalsPlease join us on Sunday (2 October 2016) at 11:00 AM for our annual “Blessing of the Animals” worship service.

“Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.” – Albert Schweitzer

Our annual tribute to the companions who share our home in the interdependent web of all existence.

Today they join us for worship in the sanctuary and it’s OK if some of them decide to sing along with the hymns.

Please bring your pet either on a leash or confined in a carrier.  Even the most docile animals can behave unpredictably in strange circumstances.

If you do not currently have a pet or yours is not ready for prime time, please feel free to bring a picture or a stuffed animal to be blessed.

This service is intergenerational — the children and youth remain with us and our pets in the sanctuary for the entire service.

We will still provide nursery care for infants and toddlers 3 and under.
