Meditation with Larry Androes (7 January 2023)

Please join us on Saturday (7 January 2023) at 10:30 AM for our weekly meditation group with Larry Androes.

This is a sitting Buddhist meditation including a brief introduction to mindfulness meditation, 20 minutes of sitting, and followed by a weekly teaching.

Please note that this group is still meeting via Zoom.  You will need to contact Larry for the Zoom link information using the contact information at the end of this post.

The group is free and open to all.

All-Ages Worship (1 January 2023)

Please join us on Sunday (1 January 2023) at 11:00 AM for our New Year’s Day morning service — “It Goes Without Saying” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

Please use good judgment and stay home if you have any symptoms.  Even those who have tested negative for COVID can later test positive.

Our January 2023 give-away-the-plate recipient is Volunteers for Youth Justice.

Remember to support our “mitten tree” cold weather children’s clothing drive for Maggie Lee’s Closet.

Children and Youth Religious Education Classes on Break — New Years Day 2023

And there are no middle school / high school religious education classes on New Years Day 2023.

Our children and youth will be welcome to stay in the worship service for an intergenerational worship service on New Years Day.

Or they can stay at home to relax and enjoy the holiday.

Children and youth religious education classes will resume on Sunday, 8 January 2023.

Adult Religious Education Class on Break — New Years Day 2023

Our 9:00 AM Sunday adult religious education class will be taking a break this Sunday (1 January 2023).

After our holiday break, please join us on Sunday, 8 January 2023, at AM via Zoom (link to be provided is future website post).

We will be discussing the next two chapters in the book God of Love: A Guide to the Heart of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam by Mirabai Starr (pages 23-36 — “All Creation Praises God” and pages 37-54 — “Reluctant Prophets”).

Volunteers for Youth Justice — January 2023 Give-Away-The-Plate Recipient

Each month we dedicate all of our non-pledge income to an organization doing the work that best embodies our Unitarian Universalist principles and values.

For the month of January 2023, we choose Volunteers for Youth Justice (VYJ).

Volunteers for Youth Justice is a community-supported non-profit that annually recruits, trains, and supports hundreds of volunteers to provide services for children, youth, and families at risk.

Their services include CASA volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a Conflict Resolution program for youth, a Truancy Assessment Service Center, Teen Court, Leadership Academy, and many more programs that serve youth and families in our community.

Two ways to donate:

OnlineGo to our donation site using this link.  If you are paying your pledge, select “2023 Pledges” and enter that amount for your pledge contribution.  Then select “Collection Plate” to give the amount you would like to give to Volunteers for Youth Justice and then put “GATP JAN 2023” or “VYJ” in the comment section.  All online collection plate contributions for the month of January 2023 will go to Volunteers for Youth Justice.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Worship Service Tonight (24 December 2022)

Please join us on Christmas Eve (Saturday, 24 December 2022) at 6:30 PM for our annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Worship Service.

This is a candlelight service including a reading of the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke, lighting candles in the darkness, silence, meditation, and carols.

All ages are welcome.

Please bring the kids by 5:45 PM to help us with something special at the beginning of the service.  We are trying something a little different and a lot of fun this year.

And please bring cookies and other snacks that are just sitting around the house and share them with others in the social hall after the service.
