Please join us on Sunday (15 November 2015) for “Wordsmithing: The Uses of Poetry” by Barbara Deger and Carol Graywing.
Two of our resident poets will read from their own works and talk about what poetry has meant to them in their own lives.
Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service — children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.
Please join us on Sunday at 9:15 AM for a screening of Dr. Cornel West giving his 2015 Ware Lecture at the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly.
This past summer in Portland OR, over 3000 Unitarian Universalists had the honor and privilege to hear author, theologian and civil rights activist Dr. Cornel West.
Grounding his talk in questions asked by the late W.E..B. Dubois to the younger generation and in his own deep faith, Dr. West shakes the rafters as he calls us to action on many of the human rights issues of the present day.
Kathy Osuch will facilitate discussion of the video.

Please join us on Saturday (14 November 2015) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for our monthly building and grounds work day.
Weather permitting, we will continue on the nature trail this Saturday along with the usual tasks — indoors and out.
Almost all of the work of our congregation is done by volunteers and working side by side with your All Souls friends can be a good way to get to know them better and to build community within the congregation.
Stay the whole time or just an hour or so. If you can’t stay, consider dropping by some snacks for the crew.

Tree Davidson Snow is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and longtime friend of the church who will speak to us on how we cultivate a grateful heart in those times when life does not seem to be leading us in that direction.

We will be discussing Chapter 3 (“The Color of Justice”) in the book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander. This chapter looks at the role of race in the criminal justice system:
Given the relatively balanced rate of criminal activity by whites and blacks, how does a supposedly race-neutral system round up, arrest, and imprison such a large number of black and brown men?

Join us on Saturday (31 October 2015) from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM for the Halloween CAR-nival hosted by Church for the Highlands / Highland Center Ministries (520 Olive Street, Shreveport LA).
Setup starts at 10:00 AM and everyone should be in place by 11:30 AM.
Join us to celebrate with our partners in Highland Center Ministries.
Decorate a trunk or a table, give out candy and provide a game for kids to play who come trick-or-treating. This event will happen rain or shine. If it rains, we’ll be inside at tables in the gym.
Even if you can’t set up a table or trunk, bring the kids out for some early trick-or-treat fun!
