19 April 2015 All-Ages Worship Service

earth_day_2010_by_CrypticDisdainPlease join us on Sunday (19 April 2015) at 11:00 AM for “Living on a Living Planet” — A Celebration of Earth Day with the Children, Youth and Adults of All Souls

Continuing our focus on the “Interdependent Web of All Existence” — we celebrate Earth Day with a focus not only on what we can do to take care of the planet, but also on the realization that taking care of the home we share includes taking care of each other.

Therefore, our focus is on “Peace, Social Justice and the Interdependent Web” — knowing, as Radha Sahar has said, that “everything relates to everything else.”  Please join us in celebration.

The All Souls Choir will sing (featuring Robert Smith on soprano sax) and we will have guest guitarists Mason Upton and Bob Jordan as well.

19 April 2015 Adult Religious Education

TheGoodHeartDalaiLamaOur class continues this Sunday (19 April 2015) at 9:30 AM with discussions of The Good Heart:  A Buddhist Perspective on the Teachings of Jesus by the Dalai Lama.

We will read and reflect on Matthew 5: 38-48 following the Dalai Lama’s advice to take time for our own reflections on the passage before “reflecting on someone else reflecting on someone else.”

We will then take time to talk about the Dalai Lama’s comments and how they affected your own perspective.

We have ten more copies of the book available at the church this week and we can order more as needed.

Read the introductory sections and the chapter on this passage of Matthew for this Sunday’s class.

PS — You are still very welcome to the class if you don’t have the book and didn’t do this reading.

Easter Lillies

EasterLilyEach year, we offer the congregation the opportunity to purchase one or more Easter lilies per person to decorate the sanctuary for Easter Sunday.

Just as we do with the poinsettias for Christmas, members and friends can purchase a lily for $10 and write a dedication to honor or memorialize someone dear to their hearts.

The dedications will be published in the Order of Service (unless you request anonymity with your donation).

Fill out the form in your Order of Service or call the church using a credit card ($11.00 with the processing fee) and dictate your dedication over the phone.

After the service, the lily is yours to keep.  If you plant it in a shady spot in your yard, it will come back year after year.

Easter Egg Hunt (5 April 2015)

Easter_eggsWe will have our Easter Egg Hunt immediately after the 11:00 AM Easter worship service (5 April 2015).

We’re asking parents (and anyone else who can help) to bring a dozen filled plastic eggs to the church before 5 April 2015.

You can fill the eggs with candy, small toys, stickers, temporary tattoos or any kid-safe treasures we haven’t thought of yet.

Be sure to mark your eggs as safe or not safe for children under 3.

Items unsafe for kids under 3 would include:

  • hard candies
  • gum
  • nuts

  • toys small enough to be choking hazards
