“Taste of Interfaith” Fundraiser

Please join us today (Sunday, 4 November 2012) from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for the annual “Taste of Interfaith” fundraiser for Northern and Central Louisiana Interfaith.

This event will be held at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (200 Carroll Street, Shreveport LA).

Please join us for an afternoon of great food, music and fellowship in celebration of our diversity and all we can do together to make Shreveport and Bossier the Beloved Community.

The $20.00 Admission includes your meal, entertainment, and a chance to shop for holiday bargains.  The All Souls Choir will be singing on the program, which will feature choirs, soloists, dancers and recitations from the many traditions represented by Interfaith.

The food is representative of many congregations and cultures and the shopping is stupendous!

Northern and Central Louisiana Interfaith is a non-partisan political organization made up of member institutions who work together to create real change in our community.

All proceeds support the work of Interfaith in the areas of

  • Minimal Living Standards
  • Workforce Development
  • Public Education

… and all the other issues that come up from our member institutions.  The mission of Interfaith is never to “do for” others, but to join with others for the power to create change.

Thank you — Melissa Gibson and Company …

Thank you — Melissa Gibson and Company — for a fun and fabulous Casino Night last night (3 November 2012).

A fantastic time was had by all, and a longer list of “thank you’s” is undoubtedly forthcoming, but — in the meantime — all of us who were there are incredibly grateful to Melissa and Jonathan and their crew for all their hard work.

28 October 2012 Worship Service

“Trunk or Treat” and Potluck Lunch — 28 October 2012

Please join us on Sunday (28 October 2012) after our 11:00 AM worship service for our annual “Trunk or Treat” potluck lunch.

Adults, children and youth are all invited to come in costume.  Grown-ups decorate their cars for Halloween and bring candy, small toys and possibly a game to play for the children, who will “Trunk or Treat” from car to car in the parking lot.

“But what about LUNCH?” asks the responsible parent-types and the generally lunch-minded.

So glad you asked.

There’s a Halloween Potluck in the Social Hall right after the service!  So bring your spookiest dish to share and join us for lunch before the parking lot festivities.

Rovena Windsor — October 2012 Volunteer of the Month

The October 2012 Volunteer of the Month is Rovena Windsor.

In the past, Rovena served as a Religious Education teacher for All Souls high school, middle school, and 2nd to 5th grade students.  She consistently contributes time, energy, and (especially appreciated) food to the All Souls Meal Train.

Currently, she is serving as a Member-at-Large on the Board.  Previous to her Board election, Rovena served as Communications Chair, contacting media outlets on the church goings-on and writing up this very column each month.  Rovena also heads the Earth-Based Spirituality Covenant Group.  In addition to a prime parking space, she is also awarded the benefit of not having to write these Volunteer of the Month blurbs again.

21 October 2012 Worship Service

Please join us this Sunday (21 October 2012) at 11:00 AM for “Knocking Around and the Quest for Truth” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell with music from the All Souls Choir.

Next Sunday (28 October 2012) — Rev. Susan Smith and Robert Smith will be with us to kick off the 2013 Stewardship Campaign.  We will have a Potluck and Trunk or Treat after the 28 October 2012 service.

14 October 2012 Worship Service

Please join us on Sunday, 14 October 2012, at 11:00 AM for “Behaving, Believing, Belonging:  Growing a UU Identity at Any Age” — Community Worship by the Children, Youth and Adults of All Souls.

Taking our title from a book reflecting on the future of the Christian church, and a recent article by UU minister Rev. Stefan Jonasson on what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist, we will explore these ideas in words spoken, prayed and sung.

This worship service features contributions of our Religious Education classes and music from the All Souls Choir.

Building and Grounds Work Day

Building and Grounds Work Day — From 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM — Saturday, 13 October 2012.

Tasks for all ages and abilities, inside and out, for a half hour or the whole time — whatever you can do, even if it’s just to drop off some snacks for the workers, your contribution will be much appreciated as we work together to take care of our church home!

And you can go straight from church to catch the last hour of the New Member Picnic.
