We will have a Newcomer Information Session following the service and — of course — everyone will want to stay and vote for their favorite chili in the All Souls Chili Cook-Off.
Please join us at 11:00 AM on Sunday, 15 April 2012 to celebrate our pillar on Peace, Social Justice and the Interdependent Web.
The children, youth and adults of All Souls will explore the many ways we practice the Seventh Principle in our relationship to the Earth and to each other.
The All Souls Choir will sing, and this is also your last opportunity to hear Joshua Pepper at the piano before he leaves Shreveport. Please come to be with us to enjoy the music and wish Joshua well.
Next week (22 April 2012) is Earth Day and Reverend Barbara Jarrell will be in the pulpit.
Next Sunday (22 April 2012) after the 11:00 AM worship service, we will be having our annual chili cook-off competition.
Who will win the Coveted Chili Chalice?
The Chili Cook-Off is a fun event as well as a fundraiser for the church. Voters vote with their dollars and — in that fine old Louisiana tradition — it is not only permissible but expected and condoned to “vote early and vote often.”
The Nominating Committee has been meeting to develop a slate of nominees for the 2012-2013 Board of Trustees. Open positions are for Vice President and Member-at-Large.
These positions require time and commitment but would be very rewarding in terms of personal growth and a greater sense of ownership in your church. The committee is asking all members to give thoughtful consideration to these positions for yourselves or for someone you recommend.
The committee needs the names of potential candidates by this Sunday, 15 April 2012, to complete their work.
If you wish to offer your own name or someone else’s for consideration, please contact any member of the Nominating Committee or the church office.
The April 2012 Building and Grounds Work is today (Saturday, 14 April 2012) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
As always, there are plenty of tasks — inside and out — for all ages and abilities.
What word describes our Volunteer of the Month for March? Diamond. Why? Like the diamond, her service has been multifaceted.
Over her long years of membership at All Souls, Laurie Lyons has practically done it all, from serving on the Board in many forms including president, to serving the Silent Auction as Donation chair for several years and still assisting with it, to serving Religious Education as a frequent teacher to all age levels, and to serving on and chairing the Finance Committee.
On more than one occasion, she has facilitated the refinancing of the Church mortgage to help free up needed funds for the church’s mission.
Currently, Laurie is donating her skills on Fridays in the church office and has agreed to complete the remaining term of Treasurer vacant because George Leppla recently moved out of state.
This Sunday (8 April 2012) at 11:00 AM, please join us for our Easter Worship Service with Rev. Barbara Jarrell in the pulpit this morning. The All Souls Choir will sing with Joshua Pepper at the piano.
At the end of the service, we will offer a communion ritual that is inclusive and welcoming of all spiritual paths, although those still not wishing to participate are given an opportunity to leave.
Following the service, all children are invited to participate in our annual Easter Egg Hunt. See below for the details.

The Nominating Committee had its first meeting on Sunday, 25 March 2012 with Claudia Harris, Carol Graywing, Joshua Lawrence and Ron Thurston attending.
The purpose of the committee is to develop a slate of nominees which will be presented to the Congregation at the May 2012 congregational meeting for the Vice President and Member at-Large on the All Souls Board.
These positions require time and commitment but would be very rewarding in terms of personal growth and working elbow to elbow with the church leadership. The committee is asking all members of the congregation to strongly consider these positions for yourselves or recommend another member with that person’s consent. We would appreciate having the names of interested members to us by 15 April 2012 so we can finalize our work.

On 22 March 2012, the Board voted to accept the proposal by Ronald G. Carlson Inc. for the work to control the growing erosion gully which has been threatening the sanctuary foundation.
The successful bid is a proposal for a collection box to be located where the collapsed sidewalk segment was, which will then feed water into an open topped concrete flume (basically, a shallow, open topped concrete lined trough) that will run down the slope to an outflow near the bayou.
Additionally, a concrete curb will be cast in place on the lawn side of the sidewalk along the northwest side of the sanctuary to contain and control the run-off of water from the roof downspouts. Due to the soil character and steepness of the slope the work will be almost entirely hand labor.
Mr. Carlson has agreed to come and discuss the project in detail with board members and all interested parties on Saturday, 7 April 2012, at 12:00 PM.
