Easter Service (Sunday, 31 March 2024)

Next Sunday (31 March 2024) is our Easter Worship Service.

We celebrate the spirit of rebirth and renewal at this season and the service includes an inclusive communion ritual focused on sharing in community rather than on any one belief system.

All are welcome.

After the service, we will have an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages toddler through 5th grade with special “compensation” for the middle and high school youth who help hide the eggs for the children.

Please join us!

Easter Eggs Needed

Our annual Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers through 5th grade is next Sunday (Easter Sunday — 31 March 2024) immediately following the 11:00 AM. service.

We are asking parents and anyone else so inclined to bring a dozen filled plastic eggs to church to help out the Easter Bunny with this hunt.

You can fill the eggs with candy, small toys, stickers, press-on tattoos, or you can even buy some of that cool egg-shaped sidewalk chalk that is big fun.

We do ask that you label the eggs you bring as to whether or not they are safe for children 3 and under.  For children under age 3, that would mean the eggs don’t include hard candy, gum, super chewy candy, candy with nuts, or toys with tiny or detachable parts that could be choking hazards.

Bring the eggs to church on Sunday (24 March 2024) or any time this coming week.  If no one is here, leave them in a bag by the office door.

You can also bring them next Saturday, or even Sunday morning before church (drop them off in the Middle/High School classroom).

Online and In-Person Adult Religious Education — 24 March 2024

Please join us on Sunday (24 March 2024) for our adult religious education class at 9:00 AM.

Our adult religious education class is now a dual-platform class — meeting in person in the church social hall and also on Zoom.

On 11 February 2024, the adult class watched “Why Awe is Such an Important Emotion” — a video featuring Dacher Keltner (author of Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life).

The adult class has decided to read his book together and all are welcome to join the class.

This week we will be discussing Chapter 9 (“The Fundamental IT:  How Spiritual Life Grows Out of Awe”) and Chapter 10 [“Life and Death (How Awe Helps Us Understand the Cycle of Life and Death”)].

We only have three more chapters and two more sessions to go on this book, but all are welcome to join us at any time.

We still have a few books available at church and we can always order more as needed.  The cost is a donation of $15.00 but please don’t let money be an obstacle to having the book if you want to be part of the group.

All Ages Worship (17 March 2024)

Please join us on Sunday (17 March 2024) at 11:00 AM for “Aaah, Whoa, and Other Spiritual Exclamations” by Susan Caldwell (All Souls Director of Religious Education).

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

The COVID risks for Caddo, Bossier and De Soto Parishes (the Shreveport metro area) are all low — the CDC does not recommend mandatory masking for all indoor events in “low” risk areas.

See the CDC website and the COVIDActNow website for more details.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so and attending worship through livestream video is also an option.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

We continue to recommend that you stay home if you have any symptoms, and that you keep up with all available vaccinations and boosters.

Please use this link to evaluate the current COVID risk for the Shreveport-Bossier City metro area as you make your decisions regarding masking and other COVID preventive measures while attending All Souls.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

Please use good judgment and stay home if you have any symptoms.  Even those who have tested negative for COVID can later test positive.

Our March 2024 give-away-the-plate recipient is Louisiana Advocates for Immigrants in Detention (LA-AID).

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.
