Middle and High School Youth Religious Education (12 November 2023)

This class is an exploration of our eight Unitarian Universalist principles through artistic expression.

On this Sunday (12 November 2023), we will explore the 6th principle (“the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all”).

The All8 curriculum is the creation of Jil Novenski (Director of Religious Education — Community Unitarian Universalist Church of New York City) who has generously shared it with her colleagues.

Online and In-Person Adult Religious Education — 12 November 2023

Please join us on Sunday (12 November 2023) for our adult religious education class at 9:00 AM.

Our adult religious education class is now a dual-platform class — meeting in person in the church social hall and also on Zoom.

We will continue reading the UUA Common Read for 2023 — On Repentance and Repair by Rabbi Damya Ruttenberg.

The book looks back to the 12th Century Jewish philosopher Maimonides as a guide to an authentic process for offering a real apology and making amends.

In our next class, we will be discussing Chapter 5 (“On National Repentance; Or The Truth After Its Telling”).

November 2023 Building and Grounds Work Day Moved to 18 November 2023

Our monthly building and grounds work day is usually on the second Saturday of each month.

For November, we are moving our building and grounds work day to the third Saturday (18 November 2023) from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

We have LA -AID guests staying with us through the second weekend in November and the weather is iffy for the second weekend.

We thought it would be easier to move Building and Grounds to third weekend.

Thanks for your flexibility and understanding.

Building Sale Update — 11 November 2023

The building will be going on the market sooner than we initially anticipated so the sign will be out front soon.

Even knowing this is coming, we did not want you to be blindsided by the sign’s appearance.

Board President Sally Wood will be calling congregants to schedule small group meetings to keep everyone updated on the progress of the sale.

You can use this link to sign up for small group meetings.

Zoom (and In-Person) Lunch on Wednesday (15 November 2023)

Please join us next Wednesday (15 November 2023) at 12 noon for our weekly Zoom lunch.

Our weekly Zoom lunch is going dual-platform — join us from home using Zoom or in person in the social hall.

Bring your lunch and meet up with your All Souls friends, have lunch, and just catch up.

Meditation with Larry Androes (11 November 2023)

Please join us on Saturday (11 November 2023) at 10:30 AM for our weekly meditation group with Larry Androes.

This group will be meeting via Zoom and not in person.

This is a sitting Buddhist meditation including a brief introduction to mindfulness meditation, 20 minutes of sitting, and followed by a weekly teaching.

The group is free and open to all.

For more information, contact Larry via email or phone using (318) 272-0014.

Building Sale Update — 5 November 2023

The building will be going on the market sooner than we initially anticipated so the sign will be out front soon.

Even knowing this is coming, we did not want you to be blindsided by the sign’s appearance.

Board President Sally Wood will be calling congregants to schedule small group meetings to keep everyone updated on the progress of the sale.

These small group meetings will allow Sally and our board to get your input on who we hope to be as a congregation, how our new location should reflect that, and how we can best serve our mission in the community.

All Ages Worship (5 November 2023)

Please join us on Sunday (5 November 2023) at 11:00 AM for our annual presentation of the Ralph Waldo Emerson Award to Madison Poche (Executive Director — The Highland Center).

Every year, All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church presents the Ralph Waldo Emerson Award to an individual or organization in the wider community who best exemplifies the principles and values of Unitarian Universalism and liberal religion.

For 2023, All Souls is proud to present this award to Madison Poche for how she has amplified and built upon the good work of Highland Center Ministries — drawing in new partner non-profits and small businesses to better serve the Highland neighborhood and the wider community.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

The risk for Caddo, Bossier and De Soto Parishes (the Shreveport metro area) are all low — the CDC does not recommend mandatory masking for all indoor events in “low” risk areas.

See the CDC website and the COVIDActNow website for more details.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so and attending worship through livestream video is also an option.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

We continue to recommend that you stay home if you have any symptoms, and that you keep up with all available vaccinations and boosters.

Please use this link to evaluate the current COVID risk for the Shreveport-Bossier City metro area as you make your decisions regarding masking and other COVID preventive measures while attending All Souls.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

Please use good judgment and stay home if you have any symptoms.  Even those who have tested negative for COVID can later test positive.

Our November 2023 give-away-the-plate recipient is the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.

Pre-K thru Grade 5 Children’s Religious Education (5 November 2023)

For this Sunday (5 November 2023), our children (Pre-K thru Grade 5) will be using a program adapted from Moral Tales (a Tapestry of Faith curriculum by Alice Anacheka Nasemann and Elisa Davy Pearmain).

The lesson for this week is “The Golden Rule and the Platinum Rule” — featuring two stories on the theme of “do unto others.”

Middle and High School Youth Religious Education (5 November 2023)

This class is an exploration of our eight Unitarian Universalist principles through artistic expression.

On this Sunday (5 November 2023), we will explore the fifth principle (“the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large”).

The All8 curriculum is the creation of Jil Novenski (Director of Religious Education — Community Unitarian Universalist Church of New York City) who has generously shared it with her colleagues.
