Online Adult Religious Education — 22 May 2022

Please join us on Sunday (22 May 2022) at 9:00 AM for our adult religious education class via Zoom.

This Sunday we continue our work through the book Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad.

As the author says, “This is not a book you read, this is a book you do” and we will be discussing some of the journal prompts throughout the book.

Layla Saad is a black Muslim woman who was raised in the UK but who now lives in Qatar.  She has written, taught, and offered workshops to a global audience.

We will be discussing the journal prompts for days 21, 22, and 23 — beginning with a review of the work so far and continuing with explorations of white feminism and white leadership.

Children and Youth Religious Education (22 May 2022)

On this Sunday (22 May 2022), children and youth religious education classes will continue to meet in person during our 11:00 AM worship service.

We have resumed our pre-COVID practice where the children and youth will join us in the sanctuary for the first 15-20 minutes and then we will sing them out to their classes.

If your child does not want to go to class, that is also OK — our services are welcoming for all ages.

We will be starting out initially with two classes grouped by age / grade:

Elementary – Pre-K – 5th Grade (Teachers:  Ashford McLain and Kevin Henry) — Our theme is “Peace, Social Justice, and the Interdependent Web.”  This week the group turns its focus to a topic that can be tough at any age — bullying — and some strategies for responding in those situations.

Middle and High School (Teachers:  Ken Peterson and Eric First) — This Sunday Maggie Molisee will be back to start finalizing the mural plans.

We would love for everyone in this age group to have input so it’s a great Sunday to come back to middle school / high school religious education.

With the time remaining and this Sunday being Biodiversity Sunday, the group will also explore the effects of environmental racism on the ecosystem here in Louisiana.

Note — We have not yet brought back nursery care for our littlest members and visitors who cannot yet be vaccinated for COVID.  However, babies and toddlers are welcome to stay with their parents in the sanctuary.  We are very understanding about baby sounds in worship.

Please join us on Saturday (21 May 2022) from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM for our monthly building and grounds work day.

Nearly all of the work maintaining our physical space is done by our members and friends who show up each month and do what needs to be done.

There are tasks for all ages and abilities.  Working side by side is a great way to get to know your All Souls friends a little better.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

The number of new COVID cases and hospitalizations has dropped in the Shreveport metro area where we are safe to return to in-person worship.

When we are indoors at All Souls, we will continue to require proof of vaccination for all attendees ages 11 and up.  However, if you cannot be vaccinated, we also accept a negative COVID test in the past 24 hours.  We are also required the wearing of masks for all in-person attendees.

Religious education classes for children and youth resumes this Sunday as well.  The children and youth will be with us for the first 15-20 minutes of the worship service before we sing them out to their classes.

Our May 2022 give-away-the-plate recipient is the United Way of Northwest Louisiana.

While we are remaining physically distant, we want to know how you are doing, what you need, and what you are interested in.  You can let us know using these online surveys.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.
