Madison Poche — 2023 Ralph Waldo Emerson Award Recipient

Every year, All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church presents the Ralph Waldo Emerson Award to an individual or organization in the wider community who best exemplifies the principles and values of Unitarian Universalism and liberal religion.

For 2023, All Souls is proud to present this award to Madison Poche (Executive Director of the The Highland Center) for how she has amplified and built upon the good work of Highland Center Ministries — drawing in new partner non-profits and small businesses to better serve the Highland neighborhood and the wider community.

Join us next Sunday (5 November 2023) at 11:00 AM for the award presentation during our Sunday worship service.

Following the Emerson award tradition, Madison will also be our speaker in the pulpit on 5 November 2023 and we will honor her after the worship service with a reception in the social hall.

Please join us.

Samhain Ritual (28 October 2023)

Ár nDraíocht Féin (ADF – A Druid Fellowship) invites you to a Samhain ritual on Saturday (28 October 2023) at 3:00 PM in the grove in front of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church.

The members of Thistle Grove invite one and all to this celebration of Samhain (pronounced SAH-wen) marking the turning of the year on the Druid calendar — a time for remembrance and reverence for the dead.

We will be honoring our ancestors and you are invited to bring one or two photos or special objects for the altar.

You may come in costume if you like, and prepare to get messy.  This is a family-friendly event.

And be sure to stay for Trunk or Treat afterward.

The jack-o’-lantern  carving workshop will happen at 2:00 PM — BYOP (bring your own pumpkin) and carving tools.  The jack-o’-lanterns we carve will be used in the Samhain ritual.

All Ages Worship (22 October 2023)

Please join us on Sunday (22 October 2023) at 11:00 AM for “Unitarian Universalism and the Future of Louisiana” featuring the ministry staff and members of Our Louisiana congregations.

This worship service will be streamed live from the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

You can watch the live video at 9:00 AM in the church social hall or come at 11:00 AM to watch the recording.

The risk for Caddo, Bossier and De Soto Parishes (the Shreveport metro area) are all low — the CDC does not recommend mandatory masking for all indoor events in “low” risk areas.

See the CDC website and the COVIDActNow website for more details.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so and attending worship through livestream video is also an option.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

We continue to recommend that you stay home if you have any symptoms, and that you keep up with all available vaccinations and boosters.

Please use this link to evaluate the current COVID risk for the Shreveport-Bossier City metro area as you make your decisions regarding masking and other COVID preventive measures while attending All Souls.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

Please use good judgment and stay home if you have any symptoms.  Even those who have tested negative for COVID can later test positive.

Our October 2023 give-away-the-plate recipient is North Louisiana Interfaith.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.
