2012 Shreveport Transgender Day of Remembrance

Please join us next Wednesday (14 November 2012) at 5:00 PM for the Shreveport Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Louisiana Trans Advocates will be honoring the National Transgender Day of Remembrance with a memorial service at the Centenary College Band Shell.  After the service, we will walk to El Compadre’s.

Unquestionably, the most solemn day for transgender people in the US is the Transgender Day of Remembrance which is commemorated every November throughout the United States and worldwide.

On this day, we memorialize the many transgender people who have lost their lives to hate-based violence.  It has been estimated that one trans person per month on average is killed in the United States in a hate crime murder just for being transgender.

If you have any questions or are interested in being involved in the event don’t hesitate to email shreveport@latransadvocates.org for more information.

Also, if you would like information about the memorials being held in other parts of the state during the week, please email us at info@latransadvocates.org.

The memorial service will honor those who have been killed from 2011 to 2012.

4 November 2012 Worship Service

Please join us on Sunday (4 November 2012) at 11:00 AM for “Caught in an Inescapable Web of Mutuality:  Hostage or Healer — What Is the Zip Code of Beloved Community?”  Claudia Harris is in the pulpit this morning.  Come hear an inspiring message on the heels of a wildly successful Annual Gala.  The All Souls Choir will sing.

Don’t forget that this is the Sunday we fall back — so you can set your clocks back an hour (a lot of them will do it for you now, but check to be sure yours is one of those).   Get that precious extra hour of sleep and still make it to church.

Join us next Sunday (11 November 2012) as Phil and Sarah Boswell and Friends present a Veteran’s Day service — “Welcoming Home the Soldier Within.”  The service will include a tribute to veterans, as well as veteran Pamela Raintree’s tribute to the Transgender Day of Remembrance (which will be observed in Shreveport on 14 November 2012).

All proceeds support the work of Interfaith in the areas of

  • Minimal Living Standards

… and all the other issues that come up from our member institutions.  The mission of Interfaith is never to “do for” others, but to join with others for the power to create change.

Thank you — Melissa Gibson and Company …

Thank you — Melissa Gibson and Company — for a fun and fabulous Casino Night last night (3 November 2012).

A fantastic time was had by all, and a longer list of “thank you’s” is undoubtedly forthcoming, but — in the meantime — all of us who were there are incredibly grateful to Melissa and Jonathan and their crew for all their hard work.

So glad you asked.

There’s a Halloween Potluck in the Social Hall right after the service!  So bring your spookiest dish to share and join us for lunch before the parking lot festivities.
