You may be familiar with the concept of an “elevator speech” — a concise way of explaining something in the time it would take to ride a couple of floors on an elevator.

For the next three Sundays, we’ll help you come up with one of your own, to talk to others about our Unitarian Universalist faith.

Last week we looked at some examples of elevator speeches from others, learned some basic tools for constructing an elevator speech and took some time to work individually on our own elevator speeches.

This week — Session 3: Sharing Your Elevator Speech.  We’ll have more opportunities to practice our elevator speeches in a safe, non-judgmental space and look at how we might answer some frequently asked questions about our faith.

In our first class, we learned the difference between a credo and an elevator speech.

While a credo is a personal statement expressing what “I believe,” an elevator speech speaks to our common history and distinct Unitarian Universalist theology.  It is the story of who we are as a faith tradition.

This week, we come to Session 2 — “Writing Your Elevator Speech.”

We’ll look at some examples of elevator speeches from others, and (using some basic tools for constructing an elevator speech) we’ll take some time to work individually on our own.

This week — Session 1: “It’s Not a Credo.”

We know that in our Unitarian Universalist congregation we have a wide variety of beliefs about God (or not god or gods), the Universe, and the great questions of life — all here together under the same roof.

A credo is a statement reflecting its direct translation from the Latin “I believe” and that will be different for each one of us.  Don’t worry — later on we can work on one of those as well.

At the same time, we do have a common history and a distinct Unitarian Universalist theology that we can share with others.

Your elevator speech is the story of who we are as a faith tradition, and we can’t wait to hear it.

Our 9:15 AM adult religious education class is taking a break this Sunday only — you can sleep in a little and we will see you at the 11:00 AM worship service.
