Children and Youth Religious Education Classes — 5 February 2023

Children and youth will attend the worship service for the first 15-20 minutes and then are dismissed to their classes.

After the holiday break, we are now discussing the wisdom of the world’s religions is one of the six sources of our Unitarian Universalist faith.

It’s important that we gain an understanding of teachings and stories that shape the lives of our neighbors, and expand and strengthen our own faith journeys as well.

This Sunday we take up “Indwelling Presence:  The Feminine Face of the Divine” and “Still Small Voice:  Contemplative Life . . . ”

If you need a book, we still have a few at the church and we can order more as needed.  Email Susan Caldwell or text her if you need a book.

Whitney Plantation Museum — February 2023 Give-Away-The-Plate Recipient

Each month we dedicate all of our non-pledge income to an organization doing the work that best embodies our Unitarian Universalist principles and values.

For the month of February 2023, we choose The Whitney Plantation Museum (near New Orleans in Wallace, Louisiana).

The Whitney Plantation Museum provides a different kind of plantation tour experience — one that tells the truth about the history and legacy of slavery in our nation.

The museum has suffered during the pandemic and in the most recent hurricanes

Here’s how to help preserve this vital link to a history we need to know as light and air are vital to healing.

Two ways to donate:

OnlineGo to our donation site using this link.  If you are paying your pledge, select “2023 Pledges” and enter that amount for your pledge contribution.  Then select “Collection Plate” to give the amount you would like to give to the Whitney Plantation Museum and then put “GATP FEB 2023” or “WHITNEY” in the comment section.  All online collection plate contributions for the month of February 2023 will go to the Whitney Plantation Museum.

Offline — Please send your give away the plate contribution checks to All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106.  Please put “Whitney Plantation Museum” on the memo line of the check if  you want to have 100% of this check go to the Whitney Plantation Museum.  If you want less than 100% of the check to go to the Whitney Plantation Museum, please put the amount you want going to the Whitney Plantation Museum on the memo line.

All Ages Worship (29 January 2023)

Please join us on Sunday (22 January 2023) at 11:00 AM for “Creating a Path Toward Understanding And Accepting the Beauty of Religious and Cultural Diversity” by Rev. Betty Grace McCollum.

We are delighted to welcome Rev. Betty Grace McCollum (Unitarian Universalist minister and faculty sponsor of the World Religions Club at Southern Arkansas University).

Betty and her husband Jim have both spoken in our pulpit before and many of you know her from her annual visits to World Religion Day with her students.

Rev. McCollum will talk about her experiences with the students at Southern Arkansas University as they teach and learn about their various faith traditions and work together to create an atmosphere of curiosity and acceptance of diversity.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

The current COVID risk for the Shreveport metro area (Caddo Parish, Bossier Parish, DeSoto Parish) is now “medium” and the CDC does not recommend masking for all indoor events in “medium” risk areas.  See the CDC website and the COVIDActNow website for more details.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so and attending worship through livestream video is also an option.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

Please use this link to evaluate the current COVID risk for the Shreveport-Bossier City metro area as you make your decisions regarding masking and other COVID preventive measures while attending All Souls.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

Please use good judgment and stay home if you have any symptoms.  Even those who have tested negative for COVID can later test positive.

Our January 2023 give-away-the-plate recipient is Volunteers for Youth Justice.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.

2023 Pledge Drive — We Need Your Pledge Now

All Souls members and friends — 15 January 2023 has come and gone.  And we still everyone’s pledge for 2023 in order to create a budget for the coming year.

Money in the collection basket is great, but a pledge helps us know how to budget for the needs of the church in the coming year.

You are the best judge of your finances and capabilities.  Don’t give till it hurts — give till it feels good — in a way that respects your own priorities and your budget.

Haven’t turned in your pledge yet — Here are three ways to make your 2023 pledge and turn it in:

  • Find that form you got in your mail, fill it out, and mail it back to All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church (9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA 71106) or scan and attach to an email to our treasurer Rebecca Tuggle.
  • Grab a form at church, fill it out, and turn it in right there.
  • Fill out the online pledge form by scanning the QR code above or clicking here.

Thank you for your support of All Souls.
