Give Away the Plate for October 2019

Our “Give Away the Plate” recipient for October 2018 is the Noel United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

We have changed the way we do our Give Away the Plate donations each month.

Instead of taking up just one collection per month, we are giving half of our non-pledge income each week to one organization for the entire month.

This month’s recipient is Noel United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Here is a description from their website:

What: Noel has the largest food pantry in Northwest Louisiana giving out over 10,000 bags of food every year to people in need in Caddo Parish. The Food Pantry is operated by Director Susan Foster and over 100 volunteers from Noel and various churches of all denominations, including our own JoDel Adkins.
Other services offered include “Start-up” Kits for those who have experienced a recent house fire.

When: Monday-Thursday from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM.

Where: The Food Pantry is located at Noel United Methodist Church, 520 Herndon Street, Shreveport LA  71101.

Info: Contact Director Susan Foster at 318-424-0434 or sfoster@noelumc.org.

Adult Religious Education — 7 October 2018

Please join us on Sunday (7 October 2018) at 9:15 AM for our adult religious education class.

This fall, we’re excited to introduce Faith Forward — a multi-part adult religious education series that will not only introduce visitors and new members to our faith but will also help those who’ve been here awhile to deepen their faith journeys.

This morning, we continue with Session 4 of UU History 101 — “A Question of Resilience and Courage.”

We will explore the contributions of two 19th Century ministers — Universalist Olympia Brown (the first woman ordained by a denomination in the U.S.) and Unitarian Theodore Parker — to our spiritual inheritance and our tradition of social justice advocacy.

Child care will be provided — See you then.

This morning, we continue with Session 2 of UU History 101 — “A Question of Love” — the story of George DeBenneville, his contributions to Universalism in America, and an exploration of foundational Universalist theology which holds that no one can be separated from love.

Each week, the session will include the stories of our history as well as a time of reflection on the influence of those who came before us on our faith and in our lives today.

Child care will be provided — See you then.
