Please join us on Saturday (13 July 2019) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for our monthly building and grounds work day.
The work of maintaining the physical home of our faith community is done primarily by US, the members and friends of the congregation. Join us for the whole time, or just an hour or so if your Saturday is busy.
We have tasks both indoors and out, for all ages and levels of ability.

This week — “Ripples in the Water: The Evangelists”:
We may not think of ourselves as an evangelical faith, but many over the years have worked to intentionally spread the good news of Unitarian and Universalist thought. This workshop looks at individuals and groups in our faith history that helped our movement to grow.

Ours is one of few traditions in which we teach our children the word “heretic” in a positive light!
The flame in our chalice pays tribute to those heretics who came before us.
Come and learn about some of the founders of our nation who were part of our proud heretical tradition.

This week — “Mirages and Oases: Idealism and Utopianism”:
“A vibrant stream of idealism runs through Unitarian Universalist history. This workshop introduces Transcendentalism, spiritualism, and Utopianism — three 19th-century movements which perhaps represent a high point of idealism in the United States as well as in both Unitarianism and Universalism. Participants explore the reasons for these expressions of idealism, examine how these movements shaped our faith, and identify strains of idealism in Unitarian Universalism today.”

Eli spent his undergrad years here at Centenary and All Souls and is a past President of Louisiana Trans Advocates.
He earned his Masters in Anthropology at UMass Amherst and is currently living in Atlanta doing research for his doctoral dissertation on the ways that trans and queer people create community in the Deep South.
He is back with us during this Pride month to talk about that work.

This week — Session 2 –“Orthodoxy and Heresy”
This workshop introduces the terms “orthodoxy” and “heresy” and explores how, throughout history, many of our forebears’ have defined their faith in reaction to prevailing powers and dominant ways of thinking.
Participants learn about times when tension between ideas or groups led one idea to be declared “heresy” in relation to mainstream or orthodox thinking or practices.
Finally, participants consider whether contemporary Unitarian Universalism embraces some “orthodoxies” in theology, in values, or in culture.
