Adult Religious Education — 8 April 2018

Please join us on Sunday (8 April 2018) at 9:15 AM for our adult religious education class. We will be watching the documentary “The Lord is Not on Trial Here Today.”

As we continue our season of focus on our 7th Principle (“Respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part”), we are pleased to welcome Jim McCollum, who will show us this documentary.

This documentary is about the case of McCollum vs. the Board of Education — the earliest court fight in this country over the Separation of Church and State.

1 April 2018 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us on Easter Sunday (1 April 2018) at 11:00 AM for “A Celebration of Easter” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

We are delighted to welcome Rev. Barbara back to the pulpit as we celebrate the return of spring and the observance of Easter on the Christian calendar.

Our Easter service is one of the more traditional of our church year — reflective of our Christian roots — and yet reflective of the fact that our Christian roots are Universalist.

Thus this service is completely inclusive of all who wish to be in community with us — without regard to theology or affiliation.

The service includes an optional inclusive communion ritual with no theological barriers and emphasis on the sharing within community.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.

Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.

Easter Sunday Plant Sale (1 April 2018)

Please join us on Easter Sunday (1 April 2018) starting at 10:00 AM before the service and continuing after the service until 2:00 PM for our plant sale.

Easter is early this year so take this opportunity to stock up on your plants for spring.

We will have ground covers, perennials, annuals, herbs, and house plants.

We will need help with setup, cleanup, and working the sale itself.

Sunday Easter Egg Hunt (1 April 2018)

On this Easter Sunday (1 April 2018) immediately after our 11:00 AM worship service, we will have an Easter Egg hunt.

Right now, the Easter Bunny is slightly panicked that the Easter eggs have been slow in showing up.

Parents and all others who can help should bring 12 filled plastic Easter eggs by the church office — preferably no later than Saturday (31 March 2018).

If the eggs are in a plastic bag or other container, they should be safe from the elements if you leave them by the office door. Thanks for your help with this.

You can fill the eggs with candy, small toys, stickers, that wonderful egg-shaped sidewalk chalk, or something else fun and safe that we haven’t thought of yet.

Please label your eggs as safe or not safe for children under age 3.

Not recommended for toddlers are: gum, hard or extremely chewy candy, any candy with nuts, or any tiny toys or toys with small parts that could be choking hazards.

The egg hunt is for children in Nursery through 5th grade classes.

Classes are separated into different areas of the grounds for their age-appropriate egg hunting.

No Adult Religious Education Class on Easter (1 April 2018)

We will not have our 9:15 AM adult religious education class on Easter Sunday (1 April 2018).

Our adult class will resume next Sunday (8 April 2018).

We will continue our exploration of this year’s UUA Common Reads (Daring Democracy: Igniting Power, Meaning, and Connection for the America We Want by Frances Moore Lappe and Adam Eichen).

25 March 2018 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (25 March 2018) at 11:00 AM for “This I Believe” with Leigh Anne Chambers, Megan Bennett, and James Peck. John Allen will be this Sunday’s worship associate

As we continue our season of focus on peace, social justice, and the interdependent web, we will hear from three of our congregants on their personal journeys in the realm of social justice, and how their faith has informed that path.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.

Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.

Adult Religious Education — 25 March 2018

Please join us on Sunday (25 March 2018) at 9:15 AM for our adult religious education class.

As we continue our season of focus on our 7th principle — “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part” — we have opted to participate in one of this year’s UUA Common Reads (Daring Democracy: Igniting Power, Meaning, and Connection for the America We Want by Frances Moore Lappe and Adam Eichen).

We will pair our discussion of the chapters each week with listening to an audio presentation by Pema Chodrun on dealing with difficult emotions (something crucial for participatory democracy in these times) and with updates on bills we are watching in the legislative session via Interfaith, Louisiana Prison Allternatives, and other organizations.
