Interfaith Get Out the Vote Campaign (25 October 2014)

On Saturday (25 October 2014) from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Interfaith will be involved with two different Get Out the Vote campaigns.

NCLAInterfaith

The first campaign is an effort to pull people together to go to the Registrar of Voters Office on Marshall Street to vote early in advance of the 4 November 2014 election.  Early voting is going on now through 28 October 2014.

The second is to participate in a Get Out the Vote Campaign by phone banking at All Souls.  We are targeting specific households in specific precincts where voter turnout drops off drastically for midterm elections.

  • Bring your cell phone and we’ll give you a list to call as well as a script and a form for recording the results of your calls.
  • This is a strictly non-partisan Get Out the Vote effort not on behalf of any candidate or party.

Email Susan Caldwell for more information or just show up with your cell phone.

19 October 2014 Worship and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (19 October 2014) at 11:00 AM for “Collective Choices and a Singular Punishment” by Beth Compa (Staff Attorney for the Promise of Justice Initiative of New Orleans)

Please join us to welcome Beth Compa who will explore the ways we are channeling our state’s resources and how we might strive to do that more responsibly:

Why do we pour money into the vengeful act of killing while others go hungry, young kids don’t have access to the early education that we know makes an essential difference in their lives, young working parents struggle to make ends meet — what other choices might we make to manifest the society and community we want?

Religious Education classes for Children and Youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.  Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service, then are dismissed to their classes.

ReclaimingPropheticWitnessBookPlease join us this Sunday (19 October 2014) at 9:30 AM for our Adult Religious Education Class.

We will be continuing our discussion of the UUA Common Read — Reclaiming Prophetic Witness: Liberal Religion in the Public Square by Paul Rasor.

Rasor makes the point that this is a crucial time for a liberal religious voice that has gone missing from public dialogue.

This week, please read the epilogue. We currently have several paper copies of the book available at church.

Rev. Barbara Jarrell requests that all church members read this book — whether you’re taking the class or not.  She also says:

Toward sharpening our vision this single effort will add common references, language and understanding as we move forward together.  And it will help you be a more informed participant and contributor in those efforts.  Please join us in class or at least in reading if you can– if you will.

BlankPagePlease join us on Sunday (5 October 2014) at 11:00 AM for our worship service — “A Blank Page” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

In this season when our Jewish friends are celebrating the High Holidays (which culminate in the observance of Yom Kippur — the Day of Atonement) we pause to “forgive ourselves and each other, and to begin again in love.”  This Sunday’s service will include a ritual of releasing that which does not serve.

Special musical guests will be Keith Grimwood (Trout Fishing in America) and Sandra Odom.

Religious Education classes for Children and Youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service. Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service, then are dismissed to their classes.
