The Game Changers Free Documentary Screening (15 September 2024)

Please join us on Sunday (15 September 2024) at 3:00 PM for a free screening of the documentary film The Game Changers followed by a discussion.

The Game Changers is a revolutionary documentary about meat, protein, and strength — this free documentary screening is sponsored by the All Souls Peace Alliance.

The documentary follows the story of a mixed martial arts fighter who faces some health challenges and discovers that everything he has been taught about protein and building strength has been wrong.  The team of executive producers includes James and Suzy Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jackie Chan.

The All Souls Peace Alliance is a group exploring veganism as a path to peace.  You need not be vegan in order to participate.  If you are vegan-curious or just wanting to add more vegan options to your diet, you are more than welcome.

Please join us on Saturday (17 August 2024) at 10:30 AM for our weekly meditation group with Larry Androes.

This is a sitting Buddhist meditation including a brief introduction to mindfulness meditation, 20 minutes of sitting, and followed by a weekly teaching.

The group is free and open to all.

All Ages Worship (11 August 2024)

Please join us this Sunday (11 August 2024) at 11:00 AM for “Seven Social Sins” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

The COVID risks for Caddo, Bossier and De Soto Parishes (the Shreveport metro area) are all low as of 16 May 2024 according to the CDC’s COVID CountyCheck website.

Additional data can be found on the Louisiana Department of Health’s respiratory virus dashboard web page.  The most sensitive metric to follow for current COVID trends is the “Laboratory Surveillance Data” link.  The link is currently showing a marked increase in positive COVID tests as of 3 August 2024.

The CDC does not recommend mandatory masking for all indoor events in “low” risk areas.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so and attending worship through livestream video is also an option.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

We continue to recommend that you stay home if you have any symptoms, and that you keep up with all available vaccinations and boosters.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

If you are recovering from COVID and have no symptoms, you should mask in public until you have tested negative twice in a 48 hour period.

We also ask that you go by the previous CDC guidelines of waiting at least 5 days past the onset of symptoms rather than the current 24 hour recommendation.

And of course — if you have symptoms (COVID or other respiratory illness) — please stay home and take care of yourself.

Our August 2024 give-away-the-plate recipient is A Second Chance At Life Foundation.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.

Summer Fun for Children and Youth (11 August 2024)

This Sunday’s summer fun activity during the 11:00 AM worship service is Salt Dough Bean Mosaic, Part II.

Some masterpieces not quite finished last week so salt dough mosaics are back by popular demand.

And anyone who wasn’t here to make one last week can make one this week.

Please join us on Sunday (11 August 2024) for our adult religious education class at 9:00 AM.

Our dual-platform adult religious education class resumes this week with viewing and discussion of the PBS Documentary The Age of Nature.

The series shows how nature has the power to heal itself if given the opportunity, and how this healing process can be beneficial not only to the planet but also to the lives and livelihoods of the humans who share this home.

For this week,  we will watch Episode 1, Part 2 (“Awakening“).

Zoom (and In-Person) Lunch on Wednesday (14 August 2024)

Bring your lunch and meet up with your All Souls friends, have lunch, and just catch up.

Monthly Building and Grounds Work Day (10 August 2024)

Our monthly building and ground work day has moved to the summer schedule — Saturday, 10 August 2024 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

With warmer summer weather, our monthly building and grounds work day will be changing to an earlier schedule (9:00 AM to 2:00 PM) in hopes of avoiding the heat.

Other than basic mowing and indoor cleaning, most of the work to maintain our physical space is done by the members and friends of All Souls.

We have tasks indoors and out for all ages and ability levels and there is a high probability of snacks.
