All-Ages Worship (11 December 2022)

Please join us this Sunday (11 December 2022) at 11:00 AM for “Waiting in the Growing Light — An Advent Service for Unitarian Universalists.”

On the Christian liturgical calendar, this is the season of Advent (from the Latin adventus “to arrive” or “come to”).

It is a time of quiet, of waiting — at a time of year when quiet waiting can sometimes seem like the last thing possible for one to do amidst the holiday hustle.

Come and wait with us.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

Please use good judgment and stay home if you have any symptoms.  Even those who have tested negative for COVID can later test positive.

Our December 2022 give-away-the-plate recipient is North Louisiana Interfaith.

Remember to support our “mitten tree” cold weather children’s clothing drive for Maggie Lee’s Closet.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.

The Mitten Tree for Maggie Lee’s Closet returns.

The tree will be up in the sanctuary this Sunday — so bring new mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, and coats for children to decorate the tree.

They will later go to Maggie Lee’s Closet at Highland Center Ministries — a children’s clothing closet that is free to families in need.

Middle and High School Youth Religious Education (11 December 2022)

This Sunday (11 December 2022) — “Understanding the Bible”

Adapted for this age group from a curriculum based on the book by John Buehrens (Understanding the Bible: An Introduction for Skeptics, Seekers, and Religious Liberals).

This week — Session 3 — The Birth Stories of Jesus

If our discussion of the Binding of Isaac is done (and that’s a big “if”), we are going to jump ahead and look at the two birth stories of Jesus and how the two stories have become one in our hearts and minds over the centuries.

We will look at the themes and symbols in the stories and how they conform to the Hebrew Testament prophecies and we will discuss what they meant to the people who wrote down the stories and to the people who first heard them.

Online Adult Religious Education — 11 December 2022

Please join us on Sunday (11 December 2022) as we continue our adult religious education class at 9:00 AM and discern where want to go as a group in the next several weeks.  Our adult religious education class is still meeting via Zoom.

Earlier this week, we sent out the reading from the Introduction in the book God of Love: A Guide to the Heart of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam by Mirabai Starr.

On this Sunday we will be discussing the chapter and determining if we want to continue reading the book together as a group.
