All Ages Worship (21 July 2024)

Please join us this Sunday (21 July 2024) at 11:00 AM for “The Joseph People
and the State of Re-Entry in Louisiana” by Curtis Davis (Executive Director — A 2nd Chance at Life Foundation).

We are honored to welcome Curtis Davis back to our pulpit this morning.

The story of Joseph in the Hebrew Testament is one of triumph over betrayal and imprisonment.  Old stories endure for a reason and this one has much to teach us about the current state of incarceration and re-entry in Louisiana.

Wrongly imprisoned in Angola for 25 years, Curtis Davis has worked tirelessly since his 2016 release to help others who are incarcerated or recently released.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

The COVID risks for Caddo, Bossier and De Soto Parishes (the Shreveport metro area) are all low as of 16 May 2024 according to the CDC’s COVID CountyCheck website.

Additional data can be found on the Louisiana Department of Health’s respiratory virus dashboard web page.  The most sensitive metric to follow for current COVID trends is the “Laboratory Surveillance Data” link.  The link is currently showing a marked increase in positive COVID tests as of 13 July 2024.

The CDC does not recommend mandatory masking for all indoor events in “low” risk areas.

Starting on 13 November 2022, masks will be optional indoors at All Souls.

Anyone who prefers to keep wearing a mask is welcome to do so and attending worship through livestream video is also an option.

We will still have KN95 masks available in the foyer for anyone who needs one.

We continue to recommend that you stay home if you have any symptoms, and that you keep up with all available vaccinations and boosters.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

If you are recovering from COVID and have no symptoms, you should mask in public until you have tested negative twice in a 48 hour period.

We also ask that you go by the previous CDC guidelines of waiting at least 5 days past the onset of symptoms rather than the current 24 hour recommendation.

And of course — if you have symptoms (COVID or other respiratory illness) — please stay home and take care of yourself.

Artist Sunday 2024 is happening in one week (28 July 2024).

Our July 2024 give-away-the-plate recipient is North Louisiana Interfaith.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.

Online and In-Person Adult Religious Education (21 July 2024)

Please join us on Sunday (21 July 2024) for our adult religious education class at 9:00 AM.

Our adult religious education class is now a dual-platform class — meeting in person in the church social hall and also on Zoom.

We will continue our discussion of the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” plan for the future of the U.S. under a “conservative administration beginning in 2025” along with some policy details.

This is the plan that a Heritage Foundation’s Kevin Roberts has called a “new American Revolution” and he says it “will remain bloodless if the left will allow it.”

North Louisiana Interfaith Welcome Luncheon (1 August 2024)

Please join All Souls and other member organizations of North Louisiana Interfaith at the North Louisiana Interfaith Welcome Luncheon:

North Louisiana Interfaith is currently in the process of recruiting new institutions and seeking a recommitment from current member institutions.

Please join us for this celebratory luncheon at which members will confirm our commitments and receive materials for our Pledge to Vote campaign for the election season (here is a link for the Pledge to Vote campaign for the Spring 2024 elections).

Pledge to Vote is a voter turnout strategy that has proven highly effective at improving the engagement of “casual” voters through a sense of healthy competition among enrolled institutions.

It is not about how you vote — North Louisiana Interfaith is non-partisan — but that you vote and encourage friends (particularly in low turnout areas) to do so as well.

Register for the 1 August 2024 luncheon by scanning the QR code above or by visiting the event page on the North Louisiana Interfaith web site.
