14 July 2019 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (14 July 2019) at 11:00 AM for “When Lady Liberty Weeps” by Dr. Pamela McPherson.

Dr. Pamela McPherson is a child and adolescent psychiatrist in Shreveport, Louisiana.  She has been recognized for her role as a whistle-blower regarding the care and conditions at the immigration detention facilities and has seen firsthand the state of the facilities and people housed there.

We are thrilled to have her at All Souls as our guest speaker this Sunday.

Her presentation is called “When Lady Liberty Weeps” and will include video.

Our summer fun for this Sunday will be “How to Read Music” with Ash McLain and Kevin Henry.  And for the not-as-musically-interested — “Jewelry Making” with Georgia Morgan.

7 July 2019 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (7 July 2019) at 11:00 AM for “The Myth of Self-Sufficiency” by Susan Caldwell (All Souls Director of Lifespan Religious Education).

If we all “get by with a little help from our friends,” then why do we set the highest standards of autonomy for those with the fewest resources?

How does the myth distort our reading of history and how do we hurt ourselves and our communities when we attempt to “go it alone” and demand the same of others?

Our summer fun activity for children and youth this Sunday will be “Building an Edible Campfire” with Betty Parent and Kevin Henry (who will teach the basics of fire-building in a novel and non-flammable way),

30 June 2019 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (30 June 2019) at 11:00 AM for “Rule-Breakers and Heretics” by Amanda Lawrence with John Allen (Worship Associate).

Ours is one of few traditions in which we teach our children the word “heretic” in a positive light!

The flame in our chalice pays tribute to those heretics who came before us.

Come and learn about some of the founders of our nation who were part of our proud heretical tradition.

Our summer fun activity for children and youth this Sunday will be guided meditation with Kevin Henry and Alicia Lovell.

23 June 2019 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (23 June 2019) at 11:00 AM for “Loving Unconditionally in a Conditional Society” by Elias Capello.

Eli spent his undergrad years here at Centenary and All Souls and is a past President of Louisiana Trans Advocates.

He earned his Masters in Anthropology at UMass Amherst and is currently living in Atlanta doing research for his doctoral dissertation on the ways that trans and queer people create community in the Deep South.

He is back with us during this Pride month to talk about that work.

Our summer fun activity for children and youth this Sunday will be origami with Sam First and Noah Wagstaff.

16 June 2019 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

9 June 2019 All-Ages Worship Service

Please join us on Sunday (9 June 2019) at 11:00 AM for “Building Bridges:  Celebrating Our Children and Youth.”

We will be honoring our graduating seniors — Ash McLain, Sarah Allen, Mason Upton, and Sarah Lord.

Our Affirmation Sunday service brings our whole church community together in honor of our children and youth and features the senior sermons and bridging ceremony for our graduates.

A bridging ceremony celebrates the transition of our graduates from youth to adulthood and is most meaningful when all generations of our community are present to witness and support them.

2 June 2019 Worship Service and Summer Fun for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (2 June 2019) at 11:00 AM for “Ain’t Got No Home” by Earlene Venable with Barbara Deger (Worship Associate).

All Souls member Earlene Venable will speak on a topic near and dear to her heart — homelessness — as a local and global issue.

Reflecting on her own work with Holy Cross Hope House and the St. Luke’s Mobile Medical Ministry, she will share her own perspectives on the issue and ideas for solutions based on her personal experience.

Our summer fun activity for children and youth this Sunday will be Tie-Dye Sunday.  Our children and youth will be tie-dyeing in the religious education wing.

Please join us to welcome Rabbi Jana back to our sanctuary.  You will be uplifted and inspired, you will sing in Hebrew, you will learn how each of us is a part of building this world from love.

A new member ingathering will be a part of this service — we hope that you will be with us to get to know our new members and welcome them to All Souls.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.  Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.
