Please join us this Saturday evening (24 September 2022) at 7:00 PM for an in-person screening of the documentary film Slave State.
This is a documentary film inspired by the book Slave State: Evidence of Apartheid in America by Curtis Ray Davis II.
All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church is honored to host a screening of this documentary film.
This is Policy Films first film of this length — produced in collaboration with the non-profit organization Decarcerate Louisiana.
The documentary highlights the grassroots movement by Decarcerate Louisiana to sponsor Louisiana legislation to remove slavery from the state constitution with the help of State Rep. Edmond Jordan of District 29.
A Q and A session with author and activist Curtis Davis will follow the screening.
Come and learn how slavery still exists in Louisiana along with the importance of voting yes on Amendment 7 on 8 November 2022 to abolish slavery in our state.
Here is the trailer for this film:

Please join us this Sunday (18 September 2022) at 11:00 AM for our annual Homecoming Service with Rev. Barbara Jarrell.
We will recognize member milestones and include a memorial tribute to those we’ve lost since our last in-person homecoming.
We will also have a blessing of the backpacks for all ages. Kids and grownups — bring your backpacks, purses, sports bags, dance bags, briefcases, diaper bags — all the things in which you carry the necessities of life — to receive a blessing. And for our children and youth a special gift to attach to it.
We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service. Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA 71106 if you are able to do so.
Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.
After the service, we will have a potluck celebration and games for some multigenerational fun. Email Amanda Lawrence or text her at 318-402-3314 if you can help with setup or cleanup for the potluck.
Although the number of new COVID cases and hospitalizations has increased in the Shreveport metro area, we are still safe to have to in-person worship at this time.
We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.
However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.
We are also required the wearing of masks for all in-person attendees for all indoor events.
Religious education classes for children and youth resumes this Sunday as well. The children and youth will be with us for the first 15-20 minutes of the worship service before we sing them out to their classes.
Our September 2022 give-away-the-plate recipient is Highland Center Ministries.
