Origami — Summer Activities for Children and Youth (2 July 2023)

During the summer, our children and youth participate in various fun artistic and creative activities.

On this Sunday (2 July 2023), we are bringing back origami for the first time in many years with teachers Noah Jarrell-Wagstaff and Ash McLain.

Children and youth will learn to make a crane and other folds from this ancient Japanese art form with easier folds and drawing paper available for the littlest children.

Grownups are also welcome to hang out and learn after church in the social hall.

Tie-Dye Sunday (11 June 2023)

Please join us on the first of our fun religious education Summer activities for children and youth — Tie-Dye Sunday.

The Sunday before Father’s Day is our annual “Tie-Dye for Dads and Other Special People” in the religious education wing.

Children and youth should bring a 100% cotton garment to tie dye.

More than one garment will probably be OK.  Bandanas, aprons, and tote bags are all OK, too, as long as they are cotton because that holds the dye better.

We will have a few extra shirts on hand for donation but bringing your own guarantees the size and style you want.

Like most Sundays at All Souls, the kids will be with us in the sanctuary until we sing them out to their activity.

Advice for those who are tie-dyeing:

  1. Wear your grubby clothes including shoes.  The dyes we use are permanent so wear clothes to which you won’t mind adding a little extra color. We do have old t-shirts the children can slip on as smocks if they need to protect their clothing.
  2. When you arrive at church, bring your tie-dye item back to the back patio, write your child’s name in the collar (or have them write it) and put the garment in the soda ash solution to soak before dyeing.  This will help to set the dye.
  3. Be sure you leave with instructions for caring for the garment when you get home, so that all the artistry is preserved to the greatest extent possible.
  4. Grownups are welcome to tie-dye something after the service.  We will show you how it’s done.
