Adult Religious Education — 25 March 2018

Please join us on Sunday (25 March 2018) at 9:15 AM for our adult religious education class.

As we continue our season of focus on our 7th principle — “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part” — we have opted to participate in one of this year’s UUA Common Reads (Daring Democracy: Igniting Power, Meaning, and Connection for the America We Want by Frances Moore Lappe and Adam Eichen).

We will pair our discussion of the chapters each week with listening to an audio presentation by Pema Chodrun on dealing with difficult emotions (something crucial for participatory democracy in these times) and with updates on bills we are watching in the legislative session via Interfaith, Louisiana Prison Allternatives, and other organizations.

Please join us on Sunday (18 March 2018) at 9:15 AM for our adult religious education class.

Today, we begin our season of focus on our 7th Principle — “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part.”

This is a time for us to focus on our relationship with and our responsibility to the planet, and each other.

We have several options for the direction of this next pillar so we will “take the temperature” of the group on Sunday to determine our path.

No Adult Religious Education Class — 11 March 2018

There is no 9:15 AM adult religious education class on Sunday (11 March 2018).

We are taking a break between religious education pillars and make the daylight savings time change easier on all of us.

Class will resume next Sunday (18 March 2018) at 9:15 AM.

4 March 2018 All-Ages Worship Service

Please join us on Sunday (4 March 2018) at 11:00 AM for “Your Universal Translator” by the children, youth, and adults of All Souls.

This week we celebrate the final Sunday of our focus on World Religions — specifically our third source, our sixth principle, and our sixth Source.

We can use our own “universal translators” when the religious language we hear is not our own. But we can do more to assure that the translator works for us in a way that is mindful and respectful of all.

Adult Religious Education — 4 March 2018

Please join us on Sunday (4 March 2018) at 9:15 AM for our adult religious education class. We will be learning about the wisdom of the Baha’i Faith.

This mid-19th century faith — founded in Iran by Siyyid Ali Muhammad (“The Bab”) and carried forth by the prophet Baha’ullah — has now spread all over the world with temples on every continent except Antarctica.

Its major theological tenets are “unity of humanity and the unity of all religions, with the ultimate goal of creating a unified humanity without racial, ethnic, class, or religious prejudice.”

Like Unitarian Universalists, the Baha’is believe that truth has been revealed in many generations.

Join us to learn more about this faith that holds diversity and acceptance as some of its most prized ideals.

25 February 2018 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (25 February 2018) at 11:00 AM for “Taking a Swim in the Cosmic Soup” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

This week, we continue our focus on world religions — specifically our third source, our sixth principle, and our sixth source.

This is also Barbara’s last service before she takes a part of her sabbatical in March 2108.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.

Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.

Please join us on Sunday (25 February 2018) at 9:00 AM for our adult religious education class (please note the earlier start time for this Sunday only).

We will be learning about “Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra (A Star Trek Story).”

You’re probably asking what does a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode have to do with the study of world religions?

To find out, you must boldly go where no All Souls adult religious education class has gone before.

Please note that we are starting 15 minutes earlier this morning in order to have time for the episode and time afterward for discussion.

This will not be a permanent change — just for this morning.

Please make every effort to be on time.

18 February 2018 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please joins us on Sunday (18 February 2018) at 11:00 AM for “Willingness and Belief” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

This week, we continue our focus on World Religions, specifically our Third Source, our Sixth Principle and our Sixth Source. In a hard week to do so, Barbara explores the challenge of living into the inherent optimism of our tradition.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.

Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.
