Highland Center Ministries — September 2022 Give-Away-The-Plate Recipient

Each month we dedicate all of our non-pledge income to an organization doing the work that best embodies our Unitarian Universalist principles and values.

For the month of September 2022, we choose Highland Center Ministries — a partnership of congregations that includes All Souls along with many congregations.

Along with the Highland Blessing Dinner, the Highland Center Ministries’s programs include three clothes closets to assist those who need clothes (The Little Clothesline for infants and toddlers, Maggie Lee’s Closet for children, and Men’s and Women’s Closets).

They also have a partnership with Pelican State Credit Union to offer low-cost hand-up Loans and other banking services to help people stay away from costly and predatory payday lenders.

Two ways to donate:

OnlineGo to our donation site using this link.  If you are paying your pledge, select “2022 Pledges” and enter that amount for your pledge contribution.  Then select “Collection Plate” to give the amount you would like to give to Highland Center Ministries.  All online collection plate contributions for the month of September 2022 will go to Highland Center Ministries.

All-Ages Worship (28 August 2022)

Please join us this Sunday (28 August 2022) at 11:00 AM for “Oil and Water:  A Water Communion Service” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

We will be meeting in the sanctuary for this worship service.  Please join us in person at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA  71106 if you are able to do so.

Our service will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live here if you cannot attend in person.

This Sunday is our annual end-of-summer water communion worship service.

Our members and friends bring water from their summer experiences to pour into a common vessel and share the stories of their water.

The water could be from a faraway land, the faucet of your new apartment, or the kiddie pool where the kids cooled off.

If you forget to bring water, we will have some on hand to symbolize the water from your story.

Each year, we boil, filter, and freeze the water (adding it to the water we have saved from past water communions).  No one drinks this water.  Instead, we use it for baby dedications and other rituals.

After the service, be sure to join us for our end-of-summer swim party and potluck at the home of Kathy Osuch and Mike Roberts.

Although the number of new COVID cases and hospitalizations has increased in the Shreveport metro area, we are still safe to have to in-person worship at this time.

We no longer require proof of vaccination against COVID for all attendees ages 11 and up for indoor events.

However, we do strongly encourage that anyone attending our worship services or other indoor events at All Souls be vaccinated against COVID.

We are also required the wearing of masks for all in-person attendees for all indoor events.

Religious education classes for children and youth resumes this Sunday as well.  The children and youth will be with us for the first 15-20 minutes of the worship service before we sing them out to their classes.

Our August 2022 give-away-the-plate recipient is Basic Necessities.

And you can contribute to All Souls using this online resource.
