In accordance with the bylaws of our church and as Secretary of the Board, I hereby announce that All Souls Unitarian Universalist church will hold a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, 17 May 2015, at 12:30 PM in the sanctuary.
On the Agenda:
Please make every effort to attend.
All active members should attend this meeting or give their proxies to those who can attend. Inactive members and friends of the church are invited and encouraged to participate, but bylaws stipulate that only those members who have been active 30 days or longer may vote.
We must have a quorum. Child care provided.
Each year, we offer the congregation the opportunity to purchase one or more Easter lilies per person to decorate the sanctuary for Easter Sunday.
Just as we do with the poinsettias for Christmas, members and friends can purchase a lily for $10 and write a dedication to honor or memorialize someone dear to their hearts.
The dedications will be published in the Order of Service (unless you request anonymity with your donation).
Fill out the form in your Order of Service or call the church using a credit card ($11.00 with the processing fee) and dictate your dedication over the phone.
After the service, the lily is yours to keep. If you plant it in a shady spot in your yard, it will come back year after year.
Choir practice and the Pastafarian Dinner for tonight (Wednesday, 25 February 2015) have been cancelled due to winter storm weather.

At last Sunday’s congregational business meeting (14 December 2014), our members approved several changes to our bylaws. The revised bylaws are now online in PDF format:
Please join us on Saturday (22 November 2014) from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM for a special nature train building and grounds work day.
We will continue to work on refurbishing the beautiful All Souls nature trail. If you are looking for something to do on a Saturday that will help you build community with friends, get you outdoors and moving, and help to restore a treasure right outside or doors, then it’s probably time for a good “RANT” (“Restore All Souls Nature Trail”).
Please join us on Saturday (8 November 2014) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for our monthly Building and Grounds Day Work Day.
If the weather permits, there will be tasks inside and out for all ages and abilities.
Special Volunteer Bonus — The family from Friday’s memorial service has graciously left us a huge pan of Shaver’s jambalaya for our dedicated volunteers.

Chan Hearron and Randall Lord continue their series of debates with the question “What Better Explains Morality — Naturalism or Supernaturalism?”
Please join us at All Souls on Saturday (4 October 2014) at 6:30 PM for this provocative dialogue.
Chan Hearron is a teacher of apologetics at Word of God Academy.
Randall Lord is a local chiropractor and member of Ark-La-Tex Freethinkers.
They have engaged in a series of debates over the years, covering such topics as Gay Marriage, Evolution vs. Creationism, and the Existence of God, among others.
Over the years, they have developed a friendship, and their debates are always conducted in a civil and respectful manner, though never without a sense of fun, as they truly enjoy the give-and-take.
Their commitment to civil dialogue and willingness to build and sustain relationship is a breath of fresh air in the current culture of argument and “who-can-shout-the-loudest-over-the-other.”
This is a reminder to all our All Souls folks who signed up to turn out for the Accountability meeting:
If you will RSVP by email to Susan Caldwell and let us know you received this reminder and are still planning to come, that will save us from making phone calls.
All of the mayoral candidates and most of the school board candidates will be there.
As a reminder, Interfaith is a non-partisan organization and this is a non-partisan event — candidates and supporters are asked not to wear, bring, or distribute any campaign apparel, paraphernalia or literature.
If you do so, you will be politely asked to put it back in your car and/or turn your shirt inside out.
Remember, also, that this is different from a forum. Candidates are asked specific questions about whether or not they will work with Interfaith on our agenda of issues, and at the end they are given a short period of time to lay out their vision for Shreveport. They will not take questions from the floor.
