18 November 2018 All-Ages Thanksgiving Worship and Feast

Please join us on Sunday (18 November 2018) at 11:00 AM for our annual all-ages Thanksgiving service, communion ritual, and feast — “Finding Gratitude” by Rev. Barbara Jarrell.

As we do each year, we will begin with a shorter service in the sanctuary and then process to the social hall for an inclusive bread and water communion (focused on the community we share and the need to feed the hungry people of the world).

After the ritual, we have a feast that really is our best potluck of the year.

If you don’t cook, no worries.

There are plenty of people who do cook and there are plenty of things we need that you can pick up from the store.

And even if you can’t bring anything, come anyway.  There are plenty of ways you can help with this feast.

Sign up here to let us know what you can bring.

There will be no religious education classes for children and youth today — these classes will resume next Sunday (25 November 2018).

Our “Give Away the Plate” recipient for November 2019 is The Philadelphia Center.

28 October 2018 Worship Service and Religious Education for Children and Youth

Please join us on Sunday (28 October 2018) at 11:00 AM for  “Dia de los Muertos” with Lee Spruell, Virginia Villarreal, and Susan Caldwell

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration honoring those who have gone before.

At this turning of the year when many traditions follow the cycles of the earth and turn their thoughts to those who have departed this life, we will learn from Lee Spruell and Virginia Villarreal about this unique tradition celebrated in Mexico and among Mexican communities around the world.

If you want to do so, please bring a photograph or possession of a departed loved one.

More akin to All Souls day, the holiday is not “Mexican Halloween.”

A Mexican-themed potluck will follow the service.  If you can make authentic Mexican dishes, that is wonderful and please do.  If your talents run more toward Tex-Mex, that is fine also.  If you’d rather make or pick up something all together different, no one will complain and that’s OK too.

Our “Give Away the Plate” recipient for October 2019 is Noel United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

Religious education classes for children and youth are offered during the 11:00 AM service.  Children and youth attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to class.

No Adult Religious Education Class Today — 28 October 2018

Due to our media sale fundraiser and potluck lunch today, we are not having our 9:15 AM adult religious education class today.

Sleep in a little longer today and then come at 10:00 AM to shop the media sale before the service.

Please pass the word along to any regulars who may not always check their email.

Easter Sunday Plant Sale (1 April 2018)

Please join us on Easter Sunday (1 April 2018) starting at 10:00 AM before the service and continuing after the service until 2:00 PM for our plant sale.

Easter is early this year so take this opportunity to stock up on your plants for spring.

We will have ground covers, perennials, annuals, herbs, and house plants.

We will need help with setup, cleanup, and working the sale itself.

If you can help or if you have any other questions, call Cindy Mandarino at (504) 376-4765.

Sunday Easter Egg Hunt (1 April 2018)

On this Easter Sunday (1 April 2018) immediately after our 11:00 AM worship service, we will have an Easter Egg hunt.

Right now, the Easter Bunny is slightly panicked that the Easter eggs have been slow in showing up.

Parents and all others who can help should bring 12 filled plastic Easter eggs by the church office — preferably no later than Saturday (31 March 2018).

If the eggs are in a plastic bag or other container, they should be safe from the elements if you leave them by the office door.  Thanks for your help with this.

You can fill the eggs with candy, small toys, stickers, that wonderful egg-shaped sidewalk chalk, or something else fun and safe that we haven’t thought of yet.

Please label your eggs as safe or not safe for children under  age 3.

Not recommended for toddlers are:  gum, hard or extremely chewy candy, any candy with nuts, or any tiny toys or toys with small parts that could be choking hazards.

The egg hunt is for children in Nursery through 5th grade classes.

Classes are separated into different areas of the grounds for their age-appropriate egg hunting.

Thanks for your help.

ReZist! — Roy Zimmerman Returns to All Souls (25 March 2018)

Please join us on Sunday (25 March 2018) at 7:00 PM for ReZist! — a Roy Zimmerman concert.

The cost is $20.00 at the door or pay what you can.

ReZist is 90 minutes of Roy’s original songs — a funny and forceful affirmation of peace and justice.

“Sometimes I think satire is the most hopeful and heartfelt form of expression,” says Roy, “because in calling out the world’s absurdities and laughing in their face, I’m affirming the possibility for real change.”

Find out more about Roy and see videos of his performances here.
